I hope you are all well and having a great summer! I sure have!! I am busy, busy, busy, but have had a ton of fun since getting back from Japan just 3 weeks ago.
We ended our Spring half of the season with a 10-1 record and in a tie for 1st place with two other teams. It was a battle in the first half of the season and will be more so in the fall!
After returning from Japan I had my summer Gold Camps! And they were a blast once again this year. We had great weather in Florida, it was hot but we did a lot of great things to keep everyone cool. Slip in slides, water balloons and even Gatorade over my head....thanks girls!!!
Our Delaware Gold Camp was a blast of a week as well. We did our skit night, skills night and had a great pool party as well. The weather was great and the games in the afternoon were outstanding.
Another cool event was my visit to the White House. President Bush had a tee ball game for girls on the South Lawn and I was the Commissioner of the event. I had the privilege to meet in private with President Bush and we talked about softball, Title IX and opportunities for women in sport. Hannah Storm from the CBS morning show was also at the event, she is a great spokesperson for women and for women's sports. I also had a private tour of the White House!! I got to stand in the Oval office, talked with President Bush in the Roosevelt room--which is where President Roosevelt planned and ran World War II. All in all, it was a very, very cool day!!
I am now in Guatemala City for the IOC meetings. When I arrived last nite, the Russian City of Sochi was voted to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The Russians flew in an ice rink here to Guatemala City and put on an ice skating exhibition, it was quite spectacular! The organizing committee from Sochi and all of Russia is very excited to be able to host the 2014 Winter Games.
