Baguio is the seat of government of the Cordillera Administrative Region. The name of the city is derived from the word “Bagiw” in Ibaloi, the indigenous language of the Benguet Region, meaning “flowering moss”(豊富にある苔類)

Typhoons in the Philippines are locally called “Bagyo”.

The term “Bagyo”, a Tagalog word meaning typhoon arose after a 1911 storm in the city of Baguio had a record rainfall of 46 inches within a 24-hour period.

Today, Typhoon No.17 (Nesat), “Bagyong Pedring” (Filipino name) hit Baguio City squarely. The powerful typhoon has struck the northern Philippines, killing at least eight people.

During World War II, Japanese military and political leaders occupied the residence from December 28, 1941, until April 27, 1945, when Allied Forces and Filipino guerrillas liberated the city of Baguio, forcing the Japanese to withdraw into the surrounding mountains. On September 2, 1945, as the Japanese surrendered to Allied Forces in Tokyo, Commander of the Japanese Army in the Philippines, General Tomoyuki Yamashita emerged from hiding in Kiangan to surrender and was brought to Baguio City.

マエストロ小澤征爾…お誕生日おめでとうございます! Happy 76th Birthday to Maestro Seiji Ozawa!

2011-09-01 12:00:00 | 日本 Japan

Happy 76th Birthday to Maestro Seiji Ozawa!!! (Sept. 1, 1935~)

Seiji Ozawa
on Aug. 27, 2011

After conducting the Saito Kinen Orchestra in Bela Bartok's opera “Bluebeard's Castle” at Saito Kinen 29th Music Festival (SKF) in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. (Kyodo news)

And Seiji Ozawa had to cancel all performances of the China trip because of health reasons.

Seiji Ozawa’s letter to China on Aug. 29, 2011

To Beijing and Shanghai friends:

I look forward to Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto's first Chinese show, looking forward to Beijing, Shanghai, but after my doctor's diagnosis, will have to cancel the trip to China in the music festival held in Matsumoto, the due to excessive fatigue and rapid temperature changes, I suffered from mild symptoms of pneumonia and dehydration, had missed the August 23, 25 performances, but I insist that the command of the 27 performances. back Tokyo, today (29) received a doctor's diagnosis of Tokyo, I need a doctor to determine the hospital for further examination and treatment, this had to cancel the trip to China.

For me, this is a very regrettable thing, while my heart to you for this inconvenience and the fear was very sorry, though I did not take place, all the performances in China will remain on schedule.

I had command of September 1 (Shanghai on September 7) of the Saito Kinen Orchestra string ensemble and opera performances, the first half of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major command will not be playing, the second half of the opera “Duke Bluebeard's Castle” by Pierre Valle (Pierre Vallet) instead of my command of his many years as my assistant conductor of the opera, orchestra members, whether or opera singers are starring for his with great confidence. August 23, 25, Pierre instead of my command of those two performances are wonderful, was a big success and I believe with my team and I will make the opera able to show a very high level in front of friends in China.

Scheduled for September 4 (Shanghai on September 11) Seiji Ozawa, music, performing private school orchestra conductor is being adjusted, has not been determined. Sook Orchestra Seiji Ozawa, music has been performed in China over the past. The performance by world-renowned pianist Bidesaier gold join, and selection of components in China by the choir on the same stage, very exciting.

Others include musical “The Soldier's Tale” Japanese composer Toru Wu style film music to jazz after the staged adaptation of the “Wu Toru memorial concert” excellent young pianist Kosuge excellent chamber music led will, these performances with strong Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto color, is very much appreciated and I would like to recommend it to everyone's performance.

Hope you enjoy in Beijing (Shanghai), Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto.

In the near future, I will still have to perform in China.

August 29, 2011
