分化人類学者の指摘を受けるまでもなく、人は経験から学習する動物だ。以前の記事でも触れた通り、その行動は無意識と習慣の多大な影響下にあり、また、人格自体もそれまでに体験したことの総体に過ぎない。もっと言えば、人(主として男性)は体験を通してしか、外部(彼以外の人間及び、生物)と観念を共有することができない。
例えば私は、自身の思考形態を根底から変移する時期を経過して初めて、その大変さを識った。それまでの自身を自己否定し、新たな「自身が信じるもの」への軌道修正をする、それには真摯な勇気の固持と痛切なストレスに晒される必要があり、その体験を経て初めて、サナギから成体へと変容する蝶への畏敬の念を覚えた(ここでいう「変容」とは、「メタモル・フォーゼ」の概念とは意を画する)。
思春期を通した私の過去には、「PRINCE」の存在が欠かせない。私は元来、音楽自体(曲)への遍歴があるものの(いい物はそれが何であれいい、の概念)、限定されたアーティストへ固執する傾向はなかった(今でもない)。しかし、何にでも例外はあるもので、そのひとつが「PRINCE」の存在だ。
その理由解明には、未だ至らない(人間誰しも自分のことが一番よく分からないものだ)。ただ、飽くまで憶測として述べれば、彼の生得的に運命付けられた(俗に言う劣等感も含めた、心的複合体の意での)コンプレックス及び、その分化過程のスピードが、私のそれらに酷似していたのだろう。
昨今の「PRINCE」と言えば、打撃系格闘技「Ｋ－１」のオープニング・ソングとして(何故か)使用されている「Endorphinmachine」の存在が挙げられる。とはいえ、「PRINCE」の芸歴は意外にも長く(日本ではあまり売れないため知られていないが、30年近い)、映画等の主題歌になっているものの他にも、(私流で言う)優れた作品は山のように存在する。
「When Doves Cry」に於ける「you」は彼女であり、同時に母親のことでもある。プリンスはこの作品に於いて、成長し恋人(この場合、彼女)と構築する人間関係は、幼児期に於ける母親とのそれを踏襲(投影)しているに過ぎない普遍的事実(「Animals strike curious poses・・」の部分は、あまりに感慨深い)を歌い上げているのだ(曲に関係なく追記すれば、上司との関係は父親とのそれを再構築)。
英語の「dove」には(小型の)ハトという意味の他に、「愛人」というスラングもある(この作品には、他にも多くのダブル・ミーニングが織り込められている)。ギターを自身の性器に擬えて弾きあげることでも有名な彼が、そのソロ演奏から始まるこの歌に託したメッセージを読み取る鍵は、聴く側の感性に委ねられているのだろう。
