プリアンプのブロック図です。
プリアンプにはレコードを聴くためのフォノアンプや
トーンコントロール等たくさんのブロックがあります。
この中で赤枠の部分だけを取り出したのが
パッシブアッテネーターです。
アッテネーター回路は出力に接続されたものの影響を大きく受けます。
パワーアンプはもちろん、ピンケーブルの影響も大きいのです。
多くの場合、それらの影響によって
低域の力が低下し、
いわゆる『パッシブアッテネーターの音』になります。
プリアンプの場合、
アッテネーターの出力に影響が少なくなるよう設計されたブロックに接続されます。
そのため低域がしっかりしているという印象になります。
反面、回路が複雑になり、
多くの部品を信号が通過することで
音楽信号は徐々に劣化します。
そのためパッシブアッテネーターは綺麗な音、繊細な音なのです。

A preamplifier has much block of the phono amplifier for hearing an analog disk,
tone control, etc.
It becomes a passive attenuator
when only the portion of a red frame is taken out from this inside.
An attenuator circuit is greatly subject to the influence of what was connected to the output.
The influence of power amplifier or a pin cable is great.
In many cases, under those influences,
the power of bass declines and it becomes "passive attenuator'ssound."
In the case of a preamplifier
An attenuator is connected to the block designed so that influence might decrease.
Therefore, bass becomes the impression of being powerful.
But, circuit is complicated.
In order to pass parts of many electrons, a music signal deteriorates.
Therefore, passive attenuators are a beautiful sound and a delicate sound.
