Walking in the Tama area (No. 19).

We went to Okutama Mukashimichi on the 23rd of April.

There were four of us this time.

The walking course is long distance over 10km on a mountain path.

I left my house at 6:30am with my wife and my granddaughter and we met my son-in-law at Mitaka Station.

We arrived at Okutama Station at 8:25am.

Then, we went on to Mizune just before the Okutama Lake.

We started out from Mizune at 9:05am.

We walked along a mountain path to Okutama Station.

It was a fine day and the best day for hiking.

We walked about 6 hours.

The Ogouchi dam.

                                            Shirahige no Oiwa.

Designated in 1926.

Shirahige Oiwa, which is on the north side of a Shirahige shrine building, is a huge rock with about 20 m diameter and about 5 m height and an overhanging side wall.

It stands as if it covers over the shrine.

The top part of the rock shows reverse faults, which were created by lime stone from the Cenozoic era being thrust onto pelitic rock is presumed to have been eroded when the Tama riverbed was higher.

It is very rare that a fault surface is exposed like this, and is therefore academically important.

Then as usual we had a late lunch near the Mitake Station on the Ome Line.

The Mitake Gorge from the Soba shop’s window.

The number of steps we walked today was 21,700 steps.

That’s it.
