『日本書紀』崇神天皇 3
是時。神明憑倭迹迹日百襲姫命曰。天皇何憂國之不治也。若能敬祭我者。必當自平矣。天皇問曰。教如此者誰神也。答曰。我是倭國城内所居神。名爲大物主神。時得神語隨教祭祀。然猶於事無驗。天皇乃沐浴齊戒。潔瀞殿内。而祈之曰。朕禮神尚未盡耶。何不享之甚也。冀亦夢裏教之。以畢神恩。是夜夢有一貴人。對立殿戸。自稱大物主神曰。天皇勿復爲愁國之不治。是吾意也。若以吾兒大田田根子。令祭吾者則立平矣。亦有海外之國自當歸伏。

The Emperor visited the sacred Asajigahara, inviting eighty thousand deities for divination. At that time, a deity possessed by Yamato Totobi Momosonohime no Mikoto spoke, saying, “Why does the Emperor worry about the country’s instability? If you honor and worship me properly, it will surely naturally stabilize.” The Emperor inquired, “Which deity speaks such words?” The voice replied, “I am a deity residing within the boundaries of Yamato, known as the Oomononushi no Kami (Great Deity of the Land).” Following the instructions of this deity’s revelation, ceremonies were performed, yet no visible signs appeared.
Subsequently, the Emperor underwent purification through ritual abstention and bathing, praying within the palace, stating, “Is my reverence for the deity still insufficient, or why is acceptance not granted so readily? Please instruct me again in a dream and bestow divine favor.”
That night, a noble figure appeared in a dream, self-identifying as Oomononushi no Kami (Great Deity of the Land), and addressing the palace said, “Emperor, do not distress yourself so. The lack of stability in the country is by my will. If you have my child, Ootataneko, perform my rites, the situation will promptly stabilize. Moreover, even overseas nations will willingly submit."
≪この英文の和訳≫
天皇は神浅茅原（かむあさじがはら）にお出ましになって、八十万(やおよろず)の神々をお招きして占いをされた。このときに、神明（かみ）は倭迹迹日百襲姫命（やまとととびももそのひめのみこと）に神憑りして言った。「天皇はどうして国が治まらないことを憂えるのか。もし、よく私を敬い祀れば、きっと自然に安定するだろう」天皇は問う。「このようにおっしゃるのはどちらの神ですか」。その声は答える。「私は倭国（やまと）の域の内にいる神で、名を大物主神（おおものぬしのかみ）という」。その神のお告げを得て、教えのままにお祀りしたけれども、なお、験（しるし）が現れなかった。
天皇はそこで斎戒沐浴（さいかいもくよく）して、殿内を浄めてお祈りし「私の神を敬うことがまだ不充分なのでしょうか、どうしてそんなに受け入れて頂けないのでしょう。どうかまた夢の中で教えていただき、神恩をお垂れ下さい」と言われた。
その夜の夢に一人の貴人が現われ、そして殿舎に向って自ら大物主神と名乗って、「天皇よ、そんなに憂えなさるな。国が治まらないのは、私の意によるものだ。もし我が子である大田田根子（おおたたねこ）に私を祀らせたら、たちどころに安定するだろう。また、海外の国も自ら降伏するだろう」と告げた。
