一書曰、是後、稚日女尊、坐于齋服殿而織神之御服也。素戔嗚尊見之、則逆剥斑駒、投入之於殿內。稚日女尊、乃驚而墮機、以所持梭傷體而神退矣。故、天照大神謂素戔嗚尊曰「汝猶有黑心。不欲與汝相見。」乃入于天石窟而閉著磐戸焉。於是、天下恆闇、無復晝夜之殊。故、會八十萬神於天高市而問之、時有高皇産靈之息思兼神云者、有思慮之智、乃思而白曰「宜圖造彼神之象、而奉招禱也。」故卽、以石凝姥爲冶工、採天香山之金、以作日矛。又、全剥眞名鹿之皮、以作天羽韛。用此奉造之神、是卽紀伊國所坐日前神也。石凝姥、此云伊之居梨度咩。全剥、此云宇都播伎。
一書曰、日神尊、以天垣田爲御田。時、素戔嗚尊、春則塡渠毀畔、又秋穀已成、則冒以絡繩、且日神居織殿時、則生剥斑駒、納其殿內。凡此諸事、盡是無狀。雖然、日神、恩親之意、不慍不恨、皆以平心容焉。
≪英訳≫
One text says, afterward, Wakahirume-no-mikoto sat in the Saifu Palace and wove the divine clothing of the gods. Susano-no-mikoto saw this and, in anger, stripped the bridle from a piebald horse and threw it into the palace. Wakahirume-no-mikoto was startled and fell from her loom, her body injured by the shuttle, and the god retreated. Therefore, Amaterasu-Ōmikami said to Susano-no-mikoto, ‘You still have a black heart. I do not wish to see you.’ She then entered the Ama-no-Iwato cave and closed the rock door. As a result, the world remained in constant darkness, with no distinction between day and night. Therefore, eight hundred thousand gods gathered at the High Plain of Heaven and inquired. At that time, there was a god named Omohikane-kami who possessed wise thoughts and consideration. He suggested, ‘Let us craft an image of that god and offer prayers.’ So, they appointed Ishikori-dome as the blacksmith, extracted gold from Mount Ama-no-kaguyama, and made the Sun Spear. They also entirely stripped the hide of the true-named deer to create the Heavenly Feathered Arrow. The god they created with these was the deity who sat before the Sun in Izumo, known as the Sun Preceding God, also called Ishikori-dome or Utsuhikona-no-kami.
Another tradition (the first one) states that after this, Wakahirume-no-mikoto came to the Weaving Palace to weave divine clothes. Upon seeing this, Susanoo-no-mikoto stripped the hide of a piebald horse and threw it into the room. Wakahirume-no-mikoto was startled, fell from her loom, and was wounded by the shuttle, and she died. Because of this, Amaterasu-Ōmikami said to Susanoo-no-mikoto, ‘You indeed have an evil heart. I no longer wish to see you.’ Then, she went into the Ama-no-Iwato cave and closed the stone door, causing the world to be constantly in darkness, without day and night. As a result, eight hundred thousand gods gathered at the High Plain of Heaven for consultation.
Takamimusubi-no-kami, the son of Takamimusubi-no-kami, who possessed the ability to think, suggested, ‘Let us create an image of that god and call her forth with a festival.’ So, Ishikoridome was appointed as the blacksmith, gold was taken from the Ama-no-kaguyama mountain to make the Sun Spear, and the hide of a deer, completely stripped, was used to make the Heavenly Feathered Arrow. The god they created this way was the Sun Preceding God, who resides in Izumo, known as Ishikoridome or Utsuhikona-no-kami.
According to another tradition (the second one), the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu-Ōmikami, had a paddy field called the Ama-no-kakita. In spring, Susanoo-no-mikoto would fill in the irrigation ditches and damage the ridges. In autumn, when the crops were mature, he would bind them with straw ropes. When the Sun Goddess was in the Weaving Palace, Susanoo-no-mikoto would strip the hide of a piebald horse and throw it into the room. All of these actions were inexcusable. However, Amaterasu-Ōmikami, out of her benevolence, did not resent or blame him but forgave him with a gentle heart.
≪この英文の和訳≫
〔一書に曰く〕ある文献によると、その後、若日女尊（わかひるめのみこと）は神々の神聖な衣装を織るために斎服殿に座しました。素戔嗚尊（すさのおのみこと）はこれを目撃し、怒りに燃えて斑馬の手綱を剥ぎ取り、それを殿内に投げ込みました。若日女尊は驚いて織り機から落ち、梭（ひで）によって体を傷つけられ、神は退散しました。そのため、天照大神（あまてらすおおみかみ）は素戔嗚尊に対し、「あなたには依然として悪意があるようです。もうあなたと会いたくありません」と言いました。そして、彼女は天石窟（あまのいわや）に入り、磐戸（いわと）を閉じました。その結果、世界は常に暗闇に包まれ、昼夜の区別がなくなりました。そのため、八十万の神々が天高市（あまのたけち）に集まり、相談しました。
