『日本書紀』仁徳天皇 28
五十三年、新羅不朝貢。夏五月、遣上毛野君祖竹葉瀬、令問其闕貢。是道路之間獲白鹿、乃還之獻于天皇。更改日而行、俄且重遣竹葉瀬之弟田道、則詔之日「若新羅距者、舉兵擊之。」仍授精兵。新羅起兵而距之、爰新羅人日々挑戰、田道固塞而不出。時新羅軍卒一人有放于營外、則掠俘之、因問消息、對曰「有强力者、曰百衝、輕捷猛幹。毎爲軍右前鋒、故伺之擊左則敗也。」時新羅空左備右、於是田道、連精騎擊其左。新羅軍潰之、因縱兵乘之殺數百人、卽虜四邑之人民以歸焉。

In the fifty-third year of his reign, Silla did not send tribute.
In May of summer, Emperor Nintoku sent Takahase, the ancestor of the Kamitsuke clan, to question Silla about not sending tribute. On his way, he captured a white deer and presented it to the emperor upon his return. He then set out again on a different day. After some time, the emperor sent Takahase's younger brother, Taji, with a command:
"If Silla resists, raise an army and attack." Taji was given elite troops.
Silla raised an army to defend against them, challenging them daily. Taji fortified his position and did not engage. One day, a Silla soldier came out of the camp. Capturing him, Taji asked about the situation. The soldier revealed,
"There is a strong warrior named Momotsuki. He is agile, fast, and brave, always leading the right flank of the army. Therefore, if you attack the left side, they will be defeated."
The Silla army left their left flank weak and prepared their right. Taji led his elite cavalry to attack the left side, causing the Silla army to collapse. They took advantage of their momentum, killed hundreds, and captured the people of four villages, bringing them back.

天皇（てんのう）の在位五十三年目に、新羅（しらぎ）が朝貢をしませんでした。
夏の五月に、天皇は上毛野氏（かみつけのうじ）の先祖である竹葉瀬（たかはせ）を新羅に派遣し、朝貢をしない理由を問いただすよう命じました。竹葉瀬は途中で白鹿（しらじか）を捕まえ、天皇に献上いたしました。その後、再び新羅に向かいました。しばらくして、天皇は竹葉瀬の弟である田道（たじ）を派遣されました。天皇は「もし新羅が抵抗したら、兵を挙げて討て」と命じられました。田道(たじ)には精鋭の兵を授けられました。
新羅はこれに対抗するために兵を挙げ、毎日挑戦してきました。田道は守りを固めて出陣しませんでした。ある時、新羅の兵士が一人、陣の外に出てきました。田道がその兵士を捕らえ、状況を尋ねると、その兵士は「百衝（ももつき）という強者がいます。彼は身軽で速く、勇猛です。常に軍の右側の先頭にいます。ですから、左側を攻めれば新羅軍は敗れるでしょう」と申しました。
新羅軍は左側を弱くし、右側を強化しておりました。田道は精鋭の騎馬兵を率いて左側を攻撃し、新羅軍は崩れました。勢いに乗じて攻め込み、数百人を殺しました。四つの邑(むら)の人民を捕えて連れて帰りました。
