『古事記』垂仁天皇 4
此天皇、以沙本毘賣爲后之時、沙本毘賣命之兄・沙本毘古王、問其伊呂妹曰「孰愛夫與兄歟。」答曰「愛兄。」爾沙本毘古王謀曰「汝寔思愛我者、將吾與汝治天下。」而、卽作八鹽折之紐小刀、授其妹曰「以此小刀、刺殺天皇之寢。」故、天皇不知其之謀而、枕其后之御膝、爲御寢坐也。爾其后、以紐小刀爲刺其天皇之御頸、三度擧而、不忍哀情、不能刺頸而、泣淚落溢於御面。
≪英訳≫
When this Emperor made Princess Sahohime his Empress, Sahohiko no Mikoto, her elder brother, asked her, “Between a husband and a brother, which is more important?” She replied, “A brother is more important.” Then Sahohiko no Mikoto, scheming, said, “If you truly value me, let us rule the world together, you and I.” He made a small sword with a dyed cord attached and gave it to his sister, saying, “Use this sword to stab the Emperor while he sleeps.” However, the Emperor was unaware of this plot, and he peacefully slept with the Empress’s lap as his pillow. The Empress, with the sword with the cord, attempted to stab the Emperor’s neck three times but couldn’t bring herself to harm him due to overwhelming sorrow, and her tears fell on the Emperor’s face as she wept.
≪この英文の和訳≫
この天皇が、サホ姫を皇后に迎える際に、サホ姫の命(みこと)の兄であるサホ彦の王（皇子）が妹に向かって「夫と兄と、どちらが大事か」と尋ねました。すると、サホ姫は「兄が大事です」とお答えになりました。そこでサホ彦の王は陰謀を巡らし、「もし本当に私を大切に思ってくれるなら、あなたと私で天下を治めよう」と言って、色濃く染めた紐のついた小刀を作り、その妹に授けました。「この刀で天皇がお休みになっているときに刺せ」と言いました。しかし、天皇はその陰謀をご存じにならず、皇后のひざをまくらにしてお眠りになりました。そこで皇后は紐のついた小刀を使って天皇のお首を刺そうと三度振りましたが、悲しい気持ちに耐えきれず、お首をお刺しになることなく、涙を流しながらお泣きになりました。その涙は天皇のお顔に落ちて流れました。
