ベルギー人と中国人の血を引く女性医師ハン・スーインの同名の自伝的小説を映画化した作品です。
今回は、その主題歌「「Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing」を取り上げました。
第28回アカデミー賞歌曲賞を受賞。
70年前の曲ですが、今も心に響くメロデイラインは、不滅ですね。
沢山の歌手がカバーしていますが、情感豊かに歌い上げるマットモンローが1番好きです。

「THE BAND」（ザ・バンド）は、ザ・バンドが1969年に発表した彼らのグループ名と同じ名称のセカンド・アルバム。彼らの最高傑作と言われており、本国では「The Brown Album」とも呼ばれています。
前述したように俗に「The Brown Album」として知られている本作は、ザ・バンドという偉大なグループを語る際には、真っ先に名前が挙がるアルバムです。ザ・バンドは、4名のカナダ人と1名のアーカンソー州出身者から成る5人組。このセカンド・アルバムは、彼らの他のどんなスタジオ・レコーディングよりも親しみやすい内容を持っています。
全12曲のすべてが忘れがたいのですが、後にジョーン・バエズがヒットさせた「The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down」とか、「Across the Great Divide」、「Up on Cripple Creek」などは特に際立ったものと言えるでしょう。しかし、知名度の低いオリジナル曲「Whispering Pines」や「Unfaithful Servant」なも重要なナンバーで、この1969年の名盤に味わいをもたらしています。
