Remaking a one-piece dress from a kasuri (ikat) kimono.

Hello, this is the kimono remake and kimono reform service in Yokohama Aobadai.『gallery/rurimon』

I received a hand-woven kasuri kimono and remade it into an unlined dress. Kasuri (ikat) refers to fabric where the vertical threads are tied and dyed before weaving. When the horizontal threads are tied and dyed before weaving, it's called yoko-gasuri (horizontal ikat).
The material is hemp. Since it's thick, it doesn't easily become transparent or wrinkle, so I made it single-layered without lining so it can be worn during midsummer and is washable.
The design was based on the customer's favorite dress which was brought as a sample. The customer also removed buttons from a dress they used to wear and brought them along.
What a wonderful recycling and remaking spirit!

経絣の着物からワンピースをリメイク

こんにちは、横浜青葉台の着物リメイク・着物リフォームの『ギャラリー瑠璃門／るりもん』です！

手織りの経絣の着物をお預かりして一重のワンピースをリメイクしました。
経絣とは、縦方向の糸をあらかじめ括ってから染め分けて織り上げたもの。横方向の糸をあらかじめ括ってから染め分けて織り上げたものは横絣と言います。
素材は麻。肉厚なので透けにくくシワにもなりにくいので、真夏もお召し頂いてお洗濯できるように裏地は付けずに一重仕立てにしました。
デザインはお客様のお気に入りワンピースをサンプルとして。ボタンも昔着ていたワンピースのボタンを外してお持ちになられました。
素晴らしいリサイクル・リメイク精神です！

A summer linen obi with handmade cross-stitch embroidery.
It seems many people discard their obis along with their kimonos saying "I no longer wear kimono..."
Both kimonos and obis represent the skills of Japanese traditional culture. Even if you no longer use it as an obi, it can be repurposed as home interior decor, a noren (doorway curtain), room divider, cushion cover, and more.
Though the fabric quantity is limited, it can also be made into a lovely simple dress.

手仕事のクロスステッチ刺繡が施された夏用の麻帯。
もう着物は着ないから・・・と帯も一緒に断捨離してしまう方も多いそうです。
着物も帯も日本の伝統文化の技。もし帯として使わなくなっても、おうちのインテリア、暖簾や間仕切り・クッションカバーなどに再生できます。
生地の分量は限られますが、簡単なワンピースにお仕立てしても素敵。

I received a cherry blossom-colored visiting kimono that's perfect for this season and remade it into a dress. Previously, I made one with the same pattern and size that the customer really loved, so they requested the same design. I'm so happy about this! Even though it's exactly the same design, it's surprisingly different - almost like a completely different piece. Since I didn't charge for the pattern or fitting, the tailoring fee became quite reasonable. Well, it's spring now! The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in no time!

桜色の訪問着からワンピースをリメイク

こんにちは、横浜青葉台の着物リメイク・着物リフォームの『ギャラリー瑠璃門／るりもん』です！

今の季節にぴったりな桜色の訪問着をお預かりしてワンピースをリメイクしました。
以前、同型・同サイズでお作りしてとてもお気に入っていただき、リクエストして頂いた形です。こちらとしてもとても嬉しい！
全く同じデザインなのに、こんなにイメージが変わるものか・・・と驚いてしまうくらい別物。
パターン代・仮縫い代はいただきませんのでお仕立て代もリーズナブルになりました。
さあ、春ですね！桜もあっという間に満開です！

From iro-tomesode (formal colored kimono) to long jacket for weddings

I received a colored tomesode kimono to tailor into a long jacket for an April wedding. It has a subdued beige background with gold embroidery and hand-painted cranes—a very auspicious pattern.
Unlike a dress, it has a front opening, so I decided to make the center front a simple meeting edge without buttons.
I couldn't disrupt the pattern. Pattern matching was crucial.
I was able to match the patterns beautifully on both front and back, and use the patterns to their fullest extent. I finished in time for the deadline and can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
It has a different feel from tailoring a black tomesode, and this project reminded me how truly beautiful colored tomesode kimonos are.

色留袖から結婚式用ロングジャケット

こんにちは、横浜青葉台の着物リメイク・着物リフォームの『ギャラリー瑠璃門／るりもん』です！

４月の結婚式用にロングジャケットをお仕立てするため、お預かりした色留袖。落ち着いたベージュに金の刺繍と手描きの鶴がとてもおめでたい柄です。
ワンピースとは違って前開きなので、前中心はあえてボタン無しの突き合わせにすることにしました。
柄を途切れさせる訳にはいきません。柄合わせが命です。
前後ともとても綺麗に柄合わせができ、柄も目一杯使い切ることができました。期日にも間に合いホッと一息です。
黒留袖でお仕立てするのとはまた雰囲気が違って、色留袖もとても綺麗だな～と改めてしみじみ感じたお仕立てでした。
おめでとうございます！
