That was quite an interesting entry to your blog on John Denver. I should have told you more about our experience seeing him in Seoul. It was at the Seoul Hilton. He had just come back from the DMZ where he had been entertaining the soldiers. Because of the cold and damp at the military camp, his voice was not in perfect shape. But still, hard to beat a live concert.

Both my mother and Betsy's mother played the piano and we both had pianos in our home. But, neither were piano teachers. I (probably, it was a long time ago..) just sat on the piano bench when I could reach the keys and tried to make some pleasant sound. I am sure my mother scolded me if I was not playing gently. (I wish Japanese mothers would do the same..)

Betsy took lessons for some years but I quit after a few weeks. Betsy also studied violin through high school.

I started playing guitar in college (self taught) and switched to banjo (self taught) when everyone else was playing guitar. A lot of my piano playing now is based on chord progressions and rhythms learned on the banjo.
