リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、未来への架け橋として、植林をすることにしました。
リッキーは「クルミの木」。「秋になったら、たくさんの実がなるよ！ぼくの子孫も困らないね！」と嬉しそうに、土をせっせと掘ります。そして、小さな種を大事そうに土に埋め、「ここに隠しておけば安心！」と得意げに尻尾をフリフリしました。
ウーちゃんは「ヤナギの木」。「葉っぱは食べられるし、木陰ができるとみんなで休憩できるね！」とぴょんぴょん跳ねて種をまきます。「早く大きくなりますように！」と手を合わせてお祈りし、優しく土の上をなでました。その後、みんなが休める木陰を想像して、楽しそうに地面にゴロンと転がりました。
クーちゃんは「ミズナラの木」。「どんぐりがいっぱい落ちてくれば、冬眠前のごちそうになるね！」と満足そうに穴を掘ります。力強く「どしん！」と種を植え、両手でぐいっと土を固めました。そして、「大きくなったらここで背中をゴシゴシできるな！」と未来を思い、嬉しそうに腕を組みました。
今日は4月3日、愛林日。それぞれの思いを込めて植えた土を見つめ、期待に胸をふくらませました。
Someday Under This Tree – Friends Growing a Forest
Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear wanted to build a bridge to the future. So, they decided to plant trees.
Ricky chose a walnut tree. “In autumn, it will grow lots of nuts! My family will never go hungry,” he said happily, digging into the soil. He carefully buried a tiny seed and wiggled his fluffy tail. “This will be a great hiding spot!”
Woo chose a willow tree. “Its leaves are yummy, and its shade will be nice for everyone to rest under!” she said, hopping around as she scattered seeds. She pressed her paws together and made a wish, gently patting the soil. Then, she imagined resting under the big tree and rolled onto the ground with joy.
Koo chose a mizunara oak tree. “Acorns will fall everywhere, and I’ll have plenty to eat before winter!” he said, digging a deep hole. He planted the seed with a loud thud and firmly packed the dirt. “Someday, I’ll scratch my back on this strong trunk!” he thought, crossing his arms with a satisfied smile.
Today is April 3rd, Arbor Day. The friends looked at the soil they had planted and dreamed of the beautiful forest that would grow someday.
