Ernst & Young faces a fresh threat to its reputation after an Irish accounting regulator said it would hold a disciplinary hearing to examine E&Y’s auditing of Anglo Irish Bank, a lender that had to be rescued by the Irish government in 2009.

Already contesting a US lawsuit over its vetting of Lehman Brothers’ accounts, E&Y’s handling of the Anglo Irish audit has been challenged in three key areas by a special investigator hired by the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board.

ひとつめは、元会長Sean FitzPatrickに対する何千万ユーロにも及ぶ多額の貸付です。

The first concerned loans worth tens of millions of euros extended by the bank to its former chairman, Sean FitzPatrick.

2つ目は、2008年の銀行危機に際に行われたアングロ・アイリッシュ銀行とIrish Life & Permanentの間の取引です。

Mr Purcell also questioned the way the auditor dealt with transactions between Anglo Irish and Irish Life & Permanent, a rival, during the 2008 banking crisis.

3つ目は、元取締役であるWilliam McAteerに対して銀行が行った貸付です。

Mr Purcell also said there was a case for E&Y to answer over a loan made by the bank to William McAteer, a former Anglo Irish director. However, he decided there was no case to answer on four other points.
