Spring, she'd thought.
（春なんだわ、とフェイは思った。）
New life and colour and warmth, and I feel dead.
（新しい命と、彩りと、暖かさ。そして、私だけが死んでいる。）
Faye shivered and wrapped the towel back around her body.
（背筋にゾクゾクと悪寒が走り、フェイはタオルを身体に巻き付け直した。）
She had to keep trying.
（彼女は挑戦し続けなければいけなかった。）
She couldn't give in to the numb, grey, mindless depression that had held her in its grip those last few weeks.
（彼女があの数週間、支配され続けた何も感じられない、灰色で思考が止まったような絶望に、屈するわけにはいかなかった。）
She had thought that the accident and the weeks in the hospital had been nothing short of a nightmare, but the real torment had not begun until after that fateful visit to Doctor Martin's office.
（事故と病院での日々は、悪夢以外の何物でもないと彼女は思っていた。だが、本当の苦しみは始まっていなかったのだ。マーティン医師の診察室を訪れるまでは。）
She couldn't function any more.
（彼女はもう使い物にならなかった。）
