We have received a donation from Tokai NGO fund for the furniture of “ICAN’s Children Center” where children used to be on the streets live with care and love. Tokai NGO fund is operated jointly by Nagoya NGO Center and a Buddhist denomination, Shinnyo-en. Thank you.

自然災害被災地の子どもたち-Children affected by natural disasters

2014年12月に大型台風の被害に遭ったここ東サマール州のドロレス町でのアイキャンのシェルタープロジェクトは、建設技術を得た住民自身が、緊急雇用で、頑丈な家を建てるだけではありません。危険な場所に住む家族のために、町と交渉し、住んでいた場所から遠くない場所に、安全な土地を確保し、最終的に新しいコミュニティをつくりあげました。

ICAN's shelter project in Dolores, Samar is not merely a construction of typhoon resistant houses by cash for work program of the people who have participated in our capacity building training. For those who lived in danger zones, we together with the municipality and barangays created a new community (relocation site) which is safe and not far from the original place.

先住民の子どもたち-Children in Indigenous Communities

学校に通うこともなく、今日も一人15キロから20キロのアバカ（マニラ麻）を背負い、収入を得るために、裸足で下山する先住民マノボ－ティグワハノンの子どもたち。基本的な読み書きや計算ができないことは、日常的に飢えを経験している彼ら・彼女たちのその日の食糧に直結する。

Instead of going to school, children of Manobo- Tigwahanon going down the mountains with 15 to 20 kg of Abaca. Many of them walk without shoes. Lack of basic literacy and calculation ability directly lead to "what they can eat the day" in the community where people regularly experience hunger.

紛争の影響を受けた子どもたち-Children in Conflicts, Jun 17 (2)

本日、ミンダナオの紛争地では、長年戦闘を繰り返してきたMILF戦闘員の武装解除が始まりました。今回は、主に41歳から60歳の一部の戦闘員が対象となり、銃を引き渡す代わりに、2万5千ペソ（約7万円）と政府の健康保険等が提供されます。今日から彼らは、「戦闘員」ではなく、「一般市民」として生活を送っていきます。

約45年に渡る政府軍とMILF軍との戦闘では、12万人が命を落とし、200万人が住処を追われ、国内避難民となりました。

地域において、銃器の数が減少すること自体、とても望ましいことです。しかし、「銃」の不在がすぐに平和を作りだすわけではありません。地域に渦巻く「憎しみ」や「悲しみ」を取り除き、意見の相違があった時に、暴力ではなく、平和的に解決していく習慣・文化こそが平和を作るのです。

歴史を繰り返してはいけない。アイキャンが、平和教育を強化していくために、力を貸してください。

Today, MILF’s decommissioning has started in central Mindanao. Meanwhile, mainly it ranges in from 41 up to more than 60 years old. They receive 25,000 pesos each (around 70,000 yen), and a government health insurance card upon the turnover of weapons.

The 45-year conflict has killed 120,000 people, displaced 2 million and stunted growth in the resource-rich southern region.

It is indeed cheering news that the number of weapon is reduced in that region, but we have to bear in our mind that absence of weapon itself does not lead to "peace" right away. It is "a culture of peace" which requires peaceful way of managing conflicts instead of using violence that creates peaceful communities.
Peace education is the key.

このミンダナオ島ブキドノン州サンフェルナンドの山奥にある、この先住民マノボ－ティグワハノンの先住民の村では、長年、人々は、固有の文化に根差して生活を送ってきました。そこには、200人以上の子どもたちがいますが、学校教育を受けたことがあるものは、ほとんどいません。教育省の学校自体がないのです。

People of Manobo- Tigwahanon in this indigenous community located in a deep mountain of San Fernando, Bukidnon, Mindanao have lived with their own distinct traditional culture. More than 200 children live with no education. No school of Department of Education operates here.

Kalye is the first registered Cooperative by children and youth on the streets in the Philippines. This was organized by ICAN. Kalye means “Street” in Filipino language.

ICAN has been elected as “a NGO consultant of 2015” by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. (This is the 6th year in succession.)

This is MOFA’s Project that 16 Japanese NGOs in all areas of Japan which have rich experiences in the fields are elected to be NGO consultants to accept inquiries from citizens and other Japanese NGOs. Pease ask any questions regarding NGO activities. (free of charge)

路上の子どもたち-Children on the street

マニラで、「Manila Express Charity Concert Vol.2」が開催され、収益金を路上の子どもの児童養護施設「子どもの家」にご寄付いただきました。当日は、日本の石川大使も含め、114名の方が参加し、立ち見が出るほど大盛況でした。路上の若者の協同組合「カリエ」のジョネルが、子どもたちを代表して挨拶をしました。

The proceeds of “Manila Express Charity Concert Vol.2” was donated to “ICAN’s Children Center” where children used to be on the streets live with care and love. .114 people including Japanese ambassador Hon. Ishikawa have participate in the concert. Jonel of Kalye which is a cooperative of children and youth on the streets delivered his message.

Sad to say, in communities where conflicts are repeated frequently, it is important to think not only how to avoid it, but also how to mitigate the negative impact ( eg: by planning the methodology of education in evacuation centers before hand) .
