English after Japanese
8年前、日本の子にフィリピンのイメージを聞きました。「バナナ」を除くと、そのほとんどが、「ごみ山や路上の子ども等の経済的貧困のイメージ」でした。同じ頃、フィリピンの子に日本のイメージを聞いたところ、ほとんどの子は、「日本人はみんなお金持ち」と答えました。
社会の課題を可視化していかないと課題は解決されない。でも、それだけだと、「課題を持つフィリピン」と「それを助ける日本」のように、一方通行な関係になってしまう。
そうではなくて、まずはお互いのことをよく知ろうよ。そしてともに「どういう社会が理想なのか」意見をまず出し合い、その「理想の社会」に向かって、お互い何ができるのかを考えようよ。そうしたら、背景の異なる子たちでも、共通のゴールに向かって活動できるようになるよね。そういう想いで、７年前に日本とフィリピンの子どもの絵手紙大会、トゥライプロジェクト（Tulay project）が始まり、年に4,000人から5,000人が参加する一大プロジェクトになりました。
※トゥライとは、フィリピンの言葉で「橋」という意味。国を超えた架け橋プロジェクトという意味です。
そのトゥライプロジェクトが、NHK名古屋放送局の番組「ほっとイブニング」で取り上げられます。
今年で7回目となる日本とフィリピンの子どもたちの絵手紙交流について、特にレイテ島から届いた絵手紙を中心に紹介されます。絵手紙を書いたレイテ島の子どもへの電話インタビューや、18日にレイテ島への街頭募金に参加してくださった方の活動の様子も放送される予定です。（絵手紙の参加者は、レイテ被災地の子どもだけではなく、路上の子や紛争地の子ども等事業地の子を含め、多くの日本と学校の子どもが参加しています。また、内容は変わる可能性があります。）
放映は中部限定となりますので、ご覧になれない方もおられるかと思いますが、該当地域の方は、お時間よろしければ是非ご覧ください。

8 years ago, we had a chance to ask the image of Philippines to some children in Japan. Aside from "banana", many of them answered “image of economical poverty such as dumpsite and children on the street”. We also asked the image of Japan to some children in the Philippines. Most of their answers were “rich country”.
It is essential to make issues visible for change, but too much focus on issues may enhance the typical image of both sides and create one way relationship like “the one from Japan to the Philippines”.
Based on this experience, we have learnt that it is important for children and youth regardless of nationalities nor cultures to share their opinions of ideal society first and discuss what they can do to create that kind of society. In this way, children with different background can work together for the common goal. This was the start of tulay project 7 years ago. By now, this became a big project that 4,000 to 5,000 children and youth participate every year.
(Tulay means “bridge” in Filipino. Project of bridging children and youth)
This ICAN’s art letter exchange project, Tulay Project, will be featured by NHK Nagoya.The interview of kids in Leyte who participated this project and street donation activities conducted in Nagoya today will be covered as well.
This will be broadcasted only in Chubu area of Japan, such as Aichi, Gifu, Mie etc.
