藍染体験 (J/E)

藍染の技術移転を行う隊員に、
短時間体験教室を開いてもらった。
様々な手法、様々な生地、様々なデザインがある中で、
夫は輪ゴムによる絞り、私は縫付けによる絞りを体験。
ふたりとも全く初めての経験で、しばし藍の世界に
魅せられ、思い思いの作業を楽しんだ。
私は残念なことに、縫う部分が多かったので、
染めまでに至らなかったが（後日、居残り…）、
夫のは見事完成！
最初から最後まで自分でやって、満足の一品となりました！

Experience in Indigo Dyeing

We participated in a small class of indigo dyeing held by a volunteer in Indigo Education. While there are various methods, various clothes, and various designs, my husband picked up tie-dyeing by rubber bands and I tie-dyeing by sewing. This was the first time for both of us, and we were charmed in the indigo world a bit, enjoying individual works. Unfortunately, I could not finish my dye because I had too much sewing parts (later, after-class detention), the husband’s was done! It became a satisfactory work, after doing it all by himself!

マングローブツアー (J/E)

サンサルからバスで2時間強、東部に位置する
ウスルタン県バトレスで活動する先輩隊員を訪ねて
マングローブツアーに行ってきた。
先輩隊員のもとにも日本から家族が視察に来ていたので
バトレス市長が自らボートを手配、水先案内人になってくれた。

両岸をぎっしり覆うマングローブ林の中、
小さなモーターボートが静かな水面を滑っていく。
様々な野生の鳥や真っ青な空に感嘆の声を上げながら
4、50分行くと、椰子の立つ18kmの浜辺が見えてくる。
市長のもっともお気に入りの場所ということで
浜辺で一端降りて、散歩。
目前に広がる景色、どこを見回してもすべてが美しい。
浜辺で羽休めしていた無数の鳥たちが飛び立つ様、
砂浜に波打つ水、水平線、真白い雲と真っ青な空、
歩くとぐんと沈む水分を含んだ砂浜…

あぁ、私のお腹は不調そのものだったけれど、
またエルサルの美しい場所を発見した素敵な一日だった。

Mangrove Tour

We had a trip to Badres, Usulutan, located in the East, 2 hours and more away from San Salvador by bus, visiting a volunteer having activities there. As she also had her families there, the Mayor of Badres coordinated the tour and guided us. Between the mangroves covering both sides, a small motor boat slid on the waters. While we were making exclamations at various wild birds and blue sky, we could see the 18 km long beech with palm trees in 40-50 minutes. The Mayor said that it was his favorite place, and we landed and took a walk. The view surrounding in front was all beautiful. That numerous birds resting in the beech started to fly away, the waters flowing into the beech, the horizon, the white clouds and the blue sky, the deep sand that contains moisture, etc.

Ah, although my stomach was so bad, it was a day when we could find a beautiful place of El Salvador again.

謹賀新年 (J/E)

夫ともにホストファミリーの親戚宅に呼ばれて、
豪快で、盛大な花火の中、年越し、新年を迎えた。
エルサル人は花火が大好きで、毎晩のようにどこからか
花火の爆音が聞こえてくるほどだ。

手持ち花火を着火用に、打ち上げ花火をバンバンあげる。
31日夜、隣家と競うように、花火が打ち上げられ、
頭上に傘広げる色とりどりの光と、舞う火の粉の中、
新年まであと何分、とカウントダウンする声が響く。

10秒前、5秒前、と迫ってくると、
急いで準備した大型路面花火に火をつける。
耳をつんざくほどの爆音の中、明けましておめでとう！と
言い合って、ハグ＆頬にチュッというラテン人の挨拶が交わされる。

そして、家の中へ促されると、新年の初食として、
七面鳥料理が振舞われる。
これがエルサル人の年越しの伝統とのことだ。

夫と私はお腹をこわし、たくさん食べられなかったけど
早い時間に年越しそばを軽く食べたし、
じゅうぶん、年越し気分を味わった。

Happy New Year

Invited by my host family’s relatives, my husband and I passed the New Year with dynamic, huge feast of fireworks in their house. The Salvadorians love fireworks as much as the explosive sounds are heard from somewhere almost every night.

With in-hand fireworks as ignition, a number of bottle rockets are fired off consecutively. In the night of the 31st, the rockets were fired off as if they competed with the neighbors, we enjoyed the colorful lights spreading overhead in the falling fire sparks, and there were some voices telling countdown to the New Year. When it was before 10 seconds, 5 seconds, someone ignite huge ground fireworks prepared in a short time. In the roaring sounds splitting your ears, each comes around to say “Happy New Year” and exchanges the Latino greetings—hug and kiss on the cheek. Later, invited inside the house, some turkey dish was served as the first food of the new year. This is the Salvadorian year-crossing tradition.

My husband and I had problem in our stomachs and could not eat a lot but had “soba” (Japanese noodles) lightly earlier, and ultimately we could enjoy the time enough.

同僚の招待 (J/E)

今日は、同僚とその夫がドライブに誘ってくれ、
San Andrésという遺跡のある場所、
エルサルで2番目に大きいサンタアナ市（写真、教会）、
サンサルを一望できる高台に行ってきた。
1日でこれだけ回れるのは、本当にありがたかったし、
私も初めての場所ばかりで楽しかった。
それに、バスはいつも緊張して乗らなくてはいけないが、
知人の車で、とってもリラックスできたのは◎。

市民の足であるバスも、治安への不安やら不潔感やら混雑やらで
少しずつ夫を疲れさせていた。
私は、そういう国に志願して来て、予想以上に良い状態の生活を
送っているので、慣れる前に、受け入れるのが早かったが、
そうでない夫には、きつい生活かもしれない。
そして、これがおそらく一般の人が感じることなのかもしれない。

My Co-worker’s Invitation

Today, my co-worker and her husband invited us for a drive and we went to San Andrés, a ruin site, the city of Santa Ana, the second largest city (the photo is its church), and a hill where we could enjoy a panoramic view of San Salvador. It was thankful that we could make a trip to several places in one day and they were first to me and I enjoyed. Also, when we take a bus, we need to be tense always but we could relax in my acquaintance’s car. The buses that are citizen’s feet had been starting to tire my husband for the anxiety to public safety, for lack of hygiene, and for crowds. I came to such country voluntarily and I spend my life here in the better way than I expected, so I could accepted the way of life here rather than getting accustomed, but to him it may be a severe life. And perhaps it is how the general people would feel.

夫とクリスマス休暇 (J/E)

少し長めの、でもゆるい坂道を、日本から来ている夫と
のぼりながら、すぐに息が荒れ始めた自分を振り返り、
つくづく、はぁ、運動不足だ…　さらにさらに、
一緒に並んで写真を撮ると、自分の顔が一回り大きく
なっているのがわかる…

――そんなショックを自分なりに乗り越えながら（笑）、
久々に2人で過ごす休暇を楽しんでいる。

24日の早朝に到着した夫を、エルサルで最も美しいと
言われている海へ連れて行き、1泊。
エルサルのイヴは、家族で教会へ行ったり、親戚で集まって
団欒する大事な日なので、海へ出かける人はいなく、
ただ広がる水平線と浜辺をひとり占めできた。

25日にサンサルへ戻り、店の閉まったショッピングモールを
散歩し、夕方にうちへ行って、家族を紹介した。
夕食パーティーを開いてくれて、イヴの行事で疲れているはず
なのに、親戚が集まってきてくれた。

26日は遺跡ツアーと題し、2人の隊員によって、遺跡の発掘調査の
行われているCasa Blanca公園とTazumal公園を訪問。
古代の人々の生活や交流などを遺跡から思い描いたその日は
とてもロマンがあって、興味深かった。

27日は、年末に毎年行うことにしている家族写真を撮りに行った。
良いお店が見つからなくて、常用する私のデジカメのようなものを
取り出して、簡易スタジオで撮影し、その場でプリントアウトして
出てきた写真は、とっても残念な仕上がり…　
モデルは良いのに、なんて。

ここまで駆け足で来ると、結構ふたりとも疲れてしまって、
28日はのんびり。
散歩のついでに、近くの美術館を観に行こうと思う。

Christmas Vacation with My Husband

Climbing a long but gentle slope with my husband who came from Japan, I noticed myself starting to be short of breath, and realized that I am lack of exercise…. Besides, the photos taken together easily show that I am now bigger!

Overcoming such shocking reality in my way (**;), I enjoy the vacations together first in many months.

I took him on his arrival on the early morning of the 24th to so-called the most beautiful sea in El Salvador and stayed overnight there. On the eve of El Salvador, families go to the mass of the church, and get together with relatives, which is an important day. So, we could occupy the horizon and the beach where almost no one could be seen.

We came back to San Salvador on the 25th, walked around in a shopping mall with closed shops, and went to my place to introduce him to the Salvadorian family. They had a dinner party and the relatives got together even if they should have been tired of the Eve’s events.

On the 26th, we went on a trip of ruins to Casa Blanca Park and Tazumal Park where two JOCV are on a mission of archaeological excavation. The day when we had an imagination trip to ancient people’s life and interactions was full of adventurous factors and it was interesting.

On the 27th, we went to take family photos which we decided to do every end of year. A good place could not be found, and in the place where we went, they took out a digital camera just like the one I use usually, took some in an easy studio, printed them out on the spot, and the outcome was regrettable finishing. Well, the models were good, though....

So far we spent busily and we have got tired a bit. And today, we are taking it easy. On the way of taking walks, we may go to a museum close-by.

Amigo Secreto (J/E)

アミーゴ・セクレート（秘密の友だち）。
この時期に行われるゲームのひとつ。
メンバーの名前が書いてある紙をおみくじ形式でひき、
その人に知られないように、ある期間、
こっそり小さなプレゼントをしていく。
そして、最後一斉に発表しあって、プレゼント交換する。

私の職場でも行われた。
最初、私の机に、チョコレートが置かれた。
私はチョコレートがどうしても食べられず、迷ったけれど、
「チョコレート食べられない」と周りの人に譲って、
嫌いなことを何気なくアピールう。そうしたら、今度は
グミみたいなお菓子が2-3日に一度置かれるようになった。

隣に座る同僚は、かわいい包装のプレゼントが毎日毎日置かれ、
少しスキャンダルチックになっていた。
傍から見てても、若干、ストーカー並みだったなぁ（笑）。

今考えると、最終日まで、何かを置いて、自分を悟られるか
どうかを賭けながら遊ぶのが、この遊びのポイント。
私は結局、最後にあげるプレゼントばかり気になって、
途中何かをあげるってことしなかった～（ハハハ・・・）
最後のプレゼントで何とか挽回したけど、
まだ、来年がある！！！

Amigo secreto (secret friend). This is a game that they do around this time fo the season. In the game, each member draws a paper with the name of one person, and without telling him/her, each starts to give some small gift secretly for a certain of time. And finally, each shows the secret friend's name and exchange gifts with all. This was done in my office too. In the first place, a chocolate candy was placed on my desk. As I don't like chocolate, after a little bit of hesitation, I gave it to the people around to let them know, and then, from the following time, she or he started to give me some other sweets once every 2 to 3 days. A co-worker sitting next to me was given presents covered nicely every single day, which became a bit of scandal-like. Yeah, it looked like stalker a bit. Thinking second, the point of the game seems about trying to keep giving presents until the last day without revealing yourself. I was thinking only about the gift to be given on the last day and did not give anything until then actually.... Well, I hope I could have recovered the loss with the final gift, and I still have next year!

人生初ダイエット (J/E)

意識しておりませんでしたが、、、
わたくし、ただ今ダイエット中でございます。

職場で、超あま～いお菓子が回ってくる時や
クリームに覆われた誰かの誕生日ケーキなど
ダイエット中ということにして、丁重に（！）
お断りしていたけれども、
ここ数ヶ月、お腹まわりの肉が気になって、
「昼しっかり、夜控えめ」を実践している。
それも、ヨーグルト＆りんごのみの夕飯。

そしたら、昨日くらいから、調子が出ない。
栄養が届いてないのかしら？！
サプリメントを摂るものの、
これじゃイカンということで、
今日は日本から送ってもらったサバの缶詰に
もずくスープも夕飯に取り入れた。

実は、ダイエットにも秘密があって、
この日曜日に夫が遥々エルサルへやってくるのだ！
それなのに、それなのに、今日体重測ったら、
期待していたほどではなかったのは、なぜ？
でも、周りからは、段々戻ってきたっていうことだから
まあ、良しとするか。。。

My first diet in my life

I did not realize it but I have been on a diet. At the office, when some super sweet sweets come along or when we eat someone’s birthday cake covered with crème, I graciously (!) refused to have it saying that I am on a diet, yet I was noticing some fat around my belly these days, and I practice “eating well at lunch, eating modest at night.” My supper is yogurt and an apple. Then, I started to feel week yesterday and wondered if nutrition had not been reaching well. Although I was taking supplement, I did not feel that was right and today I had a canned sardine and seaweed soup from Japan as well in the evening. In fact, the secret of my diet is that my husband will come all the way to El Salvador on Sunday! Nevertheless, I weighed myself today and disappointed me because it was not a number that I was expecting…. Well, people around me say that I have looked less fat now, it should be okay….

子だくさんの市 (J/E)

市中心の小さな広場には、
市場の周りに売店が立ち並び、
村から出てきた女性たちで賑わっていた。
Tシャツにフレアスカートかワンピースの
出で立ちに大きな体を揺らす。
立ったまま、赤ちゃんに乳をあげている人も見かける。

北東部モラサン県のグアタヒアグア市。
大統領プログラム「連携ネット」の社会保障給付も
今日で9ヶ月目になり、給付側も受益側も手続きに慣れ
坦々と給付作業を進めていた。
全国では貧しい村々を抱える市のひとつで
社会保障給付対象者が1,500人を超え、
その数は、同国指標の貧困レベル最高の32市の中で最も多い。

給付は、妊娠していたり、子どもがいる家庭の母親が対象となる。
それがどんな意味を持つのか、最近やっとわかってきた。
というのも、伝統的に女性は家を出ずに、家にこもって
家事や内職をしている。それは、ラテン社会で有名な
マチスタ（男尊女卑、男系優位）文化によるもの。
それを断ち切るべく、政府や国内NGOが様々な口実（セミナーや
式典の開催など）を作って、女性を家から出す戦略を行っている。
だから、彼女等が市の中心部へ出てきて、他の女性と会話したり、
市場を歩いたり、アイスキャンディーをなめてみたり、他の家々を
見ることは、自分たちの生活への自主的な見直しにきっと役立つ。
それは言葉で説明するよりも、何倍も効果がある。
この給付プログラムによって、どんなことが起こっているか、
是非、彼女たちから意見を収集したいと思い始めた。

City with numerous offspring

In the little site in the city center, lots of vendors opened stands around the little market, and it was in a festive with women from villages. It seemed that most of them were wearing t-shirt and flair skirt or one-piece in the big body. There were a number of women nursing babies at the breast on their feet.

It is Guatajiagua City of Morrazan, locating in the northeast. The payment of social security benefits in the president program “Red Solidaria” has entered into the 9th month there today, and both of the payer and beneficiary already got used to the process. It is one of the cities having poor villages, and the beneficiary also exceeds 1,500 people which is the highest number among the 32 cities of the poorest in the nation.

The beneficiary is the mother who has a family with kids or is pregnant. I came to understand the meaning of that recently. For the women traditionally do not get outside of the house and keep doing home chores and work. It is under the latin culture of machista. To cut off the custom, the government and national NGOs make various excuses like seminars and ceremonies, and let them go out of the house. So, they come to the center of the city, talk with other women, walk about the market, lick some ice candy, observing some houses, and so on, all of which will help them rethink about their own life voluntarily. It has by far more effects than explaining in words. I came to feel like collecting their opinions on what is happening in their life through this program.

危機管理研修 (J/E)

7～8日で1泊職員研修に付いていった。
GTZ（ドイツ国際協力機構）の全面支援＆調整により
ペルーから講師が招かれ、公共投資において危機管理
体制を構築するため、各部署の関係者約20名が参加。
ペルーの事例が織り込められた。各人ばらばらな利害を
一気に表出しながらも、体制構築という目的に向かって、
動き、なんとなくまとめられていく様子は、断然、
意義深いことだった。

各部署の関係者間の情報共有はあまり見られないことの
ひとつだし、考えうる危機に対して対処法を検討しながら
プロジェクトを組み立てることを通し、そもそもの計画力を
強化できる可能性を持っているので、非常に良い研修だった。
そして、この研修をはじめ、ドイツの支援のあり方についても
非常に考えさせられるものが多いとあらためて考えた。

Seminar on Crisis Management

I followed my co-workers’ seminar with one night stay. With the whole support and coordination by the GTZ (Agency of International Cooperation of Germany), the lecturer was invited from Peru and the seminar was held with the view to establishing the system of crisis management on the public investment and about 20 personnel participated. Sometimes the cases of Peru were introduced. Everyone were expressing their interests all at once, but aiming at the objective of establishing the system, they moved and the opinions were somewhat facilitated, which was all so meaningful.

It was really nice seminar for them because sharing information between the departments is rare in the office and finding out the way how to manage thinkable crisis can strengthen their capacity in planning potentially. Besides, I cannot help admiring how Germany provides supports.

体験型日本祭 (J/E)

けん玉や浴衣、折り紙、竹とんぼ、日本食などは
すでに体験型代表選手、といったところ。
昨日行ってきた祭りでは、それプラス剣道、合気道、柔道の
舞台デモに、子どもたちの体験参加を取り入れた。
また、国立大学の日本語学生に詩の朗読を披露してもらい、
さらに炭坑節や歌へ参加してもらったのも良かったと思う。

毎回、いろいろな試みとともに躍動感が増していく日本祭。
活動的でさまざまな能力を持つ隊員が企画・実施するからこそ、
生み出されるものが常にレベルアップする。
これだけ見ていても、協力隊の目的のひとつである、
帰国後、培った技術・経験を日本社会に還元できる青年を育成する、
っていう部分は十分にクリアしているように思えてくる。（自画自賛？？）

Participatory Japanese Festival

Things like kendama (cup and ball), yukata, origami, taketombo (bamboo fly), and foods are already representatives of the participatory types. This time that we went yesterday, we added the participation time for kids during the demonstration of kendo, aikido and judo. Moreover, the students of Japanese classes in the National University showed their reading of poems on the stage and also participated in a dance of Tankoubushi and chorus of Japanese songs, which was nice.

Every time, the Japanese festival is increasing its liveliness and dynamism with various trials. Just because the active volunteers with various capacity design and execute the event, the outcome is always improved. Observing only such situation gives me an idea that we are clearing one of the objectives of JOCV that is to foster the youth who would take back what they experience and obtain to a Japanese society after the JOCV program. (Self-applause…?!)

クリスマス一色 (J/E)

5～6年前にいたワシントンより凄い。
先々週くらいからスーパーなどでクリスマス商品が
出始めたと思ったら、街中、ツリーや赤・緑の飾り、
かわいい豆電球で華やぎ始めた。
職場にもツリーが飾られ、行きつけのお店も
柱に人工もみの葉の飾り物など、装飾に手をかけている。

今日はうちでもクリスマス一色。
リビングやダイニングの棚にあった小物や人形、写真が一掃され、
クリスマスにちなんだ小物や人形、造花が置かれる。
テーブルクロスもクリスマス、キッチンもクリスマス、
玄関もクリスマス、寝室もクリスマス、階段もクリスマス、
どこを見回しても、クリスマス！！！
ちと早いんじゃないか、と思ったけど、そっか、
前にも書いたとおりで、12月は一ヶ月クリスマスなのだ。

Thoroughly Christmas

It is by far tremendous than Washington where I stayed 5-6 years ago. The supermarket started to sell the Christmas goods from about 2 weeks ago, and now, the whole city started to be sparkling with trees, green and red decorations, and cute lightings. In my office a big tree has been placed, and in my favorite canteen, they did the total work on decorating the pillars with artificial fir tree leaves, for instance.

Today, my place is colored in Christmas. Small articles, dolls and photos on the shelves in the living room and dining room were all taken away and the ones related to the Christmas are now placed. The table cloth is Christmas, the kitchen is Christmas, the entrance is Christmas, the bedrooms are Christmas, the staircase is Christmas, Christmas all over!!! I thought this would be a bit early, but aha, as I have written before, the whole month of December is Christmas.

日本語スピコン (J/E)

日本語教師隊員が活動する国立大学で
日本語スピーチコンテストが行われた。
これがまた、予想以上におもしろかった！

コンテストは、詩の暗唱部門、自作の詩部門、
スピーチ部門の3部門構成で行われた。
詩の暗唱では、感情を込めて、ジェスチャーを入れ
ながらの暗唱で、日本人とは異なったジェスチャーの
入れ方や合間の取り方が、逆に新鮮だった。
自作の詩も、難易度が高く、話の展開や言葉遣いに
いろいろ工夫している様子が、素晴らしかった。

そして、スピーチ部門はさらに秀逸の日本語学生が
日本に短期で滞在したときなどの経験から
考えたことなどが題材となっていたが、絶句するほど。
特に、優勝した学生の「日本人の時間厳守」という
スピーチは、テーマ、構成、内容、言葉遣い、
どれをとっても素晴らしかった！
時間をキッカリ守ることへの疑念・懐疑心から、
無駄がなく効率的で、思いやりがあるというような
考え方に変化していった過程の話が特に興味深かった。

Japanese Speech Contest

The Japanese Speech Contest was held in the National University where two volunteers in Japanese teaching work. It was unexpectedly a lot of fun!

The contest consisted of three categories: poem recitation, poem creation, and speech. In the poem recitation, the participants recited a determined poem pouring the soul into it and with gestures. It was interesting and fresh to me to see them do gestures and have moments to be taken that are distinct from the Japanese one. The poem creation was in a high difficulty, but it was splendid that they had made efforts in the story making and the use of vocabulary.

And the speeches were done by excellent students and made in the themes mostly based upon their experience of staying in Japan for a short time. It was just fantastic. Especially, the speaker who won the contest made a theme “the Japanese Punctuality,” and it was superb in theme, composition, content, and the use of language. A shift from some of wonder and skepticism on the punctuality to awareness of no waste, efficiency and attention to others was described so nicely and it was really interesting.

エアコン (J/E)

それで、エアコンの温度を上げるか、消すか、
総務部にこっそりメールを送ってみた。
当たり障りなく、まるで道に迷って困ったような感じで。
その効果かどうかはわからないが、午後には
エアコンの温度に気をつけましょうというメールが
診療室から流れてきたと思うと、翌日の今日は、
エアコンが頻繁に止まったりついたりするようになった。
また、エアコンの点検をする業者らしき人の出入りもあった。
その結果は、外の気温と同じくらいの温度（寒いけど、
震えるほどではない）の時間帯が増えたような気がした。

あらためて同僚にも、エアコンでオフィスが寒いのに、
なぜ誰も何も言わないのかという話を持ちかけてみた。
でも、どうしても彼らの言っていることが理解できないことが
2回くらいあった。思い出して、よくよく考えてみると、
どうも、たとえば、外は23度なので、冷房の温度を28度にして、
寒さを抑えようとしているんではないかということに気づいた。
でも実際には、冷たい空気しか流れてこない。
冷房はあくまで冷房で、暖かい空気を送り込むものではない。
それを分かってもらわないといけないのかもしれない。
って、そういうことなのかな～？

Air-conditioner

So, I e-mailed to the Department of General Services asking to raise the temperature or turn off the air-conditioner. I asked so very nicely as if I am in trouble getting lost in the street. I do not know if it is because of it, but in the afternoon, there came an e-mail from the clinic saying that you should take care of the air-conditioner, and the following day, today, the air-conditioner was on and off from time to time. And also, there was a worker on the air-conditioner visiting the office. As a result, I felt that there was more time when the temperature was just similar to the air outside (it is cold but it is not too cold like trembling).

One more time, I spoke with some co-workers on the reason why no one say anything about the air-conditioner even though it is cold in the office. Yet, there were two persons who were saying something that I could not understand at all. Now, I remember and consider what they said and it seems that they were expecting to heat the room setting the air-conditioner (cooling system) at 28 degrees because it is 23 degrees outside, for example. But in reality, there is only cold air coming from the air-conditioner. The cooling system is just cooling system and it does not send out warm air. Maybe, they need to understand it now. Well, is this correct???

乾季の風 (J/E)

今月から乾季に入った。
この変わり目の11月、12月は強い風がふき、
空気も冷え込む。

今日のサンサルは、20～25℃くらい。
半袖では寒い。
それなのに、オフィス内は相変わらず冷房がきいていて、
シャツとセーターを重ね着するだけでは、足りなくなってきた。
手がかじかんで、外で温めることもたまに。

オフィス内で厚着するのは私だけではない。
多くの職員が、「寒いよ～」とよくつぶやいている。
それなのに、彼らは（何かを恐れて？！）誰も何も言わない。
赴任当時に聞いたこともあったが、仕方ない、というような答えしか
返ってこなかったので、しばらく様子を見ながら我慢していた。
でも、もう一度、話をしてみようと思う。

Wind of the dry season

The dry season started this month. In this change of season, that is November and December, a strong wind blows and a cold air covers the city. Today’s San Salvador had a temperature between 20 and 25 degrees centigrade. It is cold with a short-sleeve shirt. However, the office is air-conditioned as usual and the layer of a shirt and a sweater is not enough now. Hands get stiff in cold, and I need to get outside sometimes. Not only I but many people wear many clothes on like coat and sweater, and always mumble that they are cold. Yet, no one speaks up for some reason. I have asked someone in arriving, but there was no more response than something like “there is no other way.” So, I have been patient observing their attitude. But now, I will try to talk to them once again.

マングローブ (J/E)

エルサルにもマングローブがあった！
ちょっと安定の悪いモーターボートに乗って、
20分ほどマングローブ林を走り抜け、
大海に出ると今まで左右に見ていた火山や山脈を
パノラマで一望できる。
ある隊員が活動している貝類養殖プロジェクト内で
作られた浜茶屋では、美味しい魚や貝が食べられる
だけではなく、浜で透明度の高い美しい海で泳ぐこともできる。

マングローブでは貝や魚が採れるが、最近は乱獲の為に
数が減ってきていることを受け、養殖技術が技術移転されている。

木々の上に休息する数羽のきれいな鳥の凛とした姿や
浜辺に浮かぶマングローブの芽、
水の中で無数に歩いているヤドカリや小魚の群れ、
そういうのを目にすると、
もったいないくらいの豊かな自然の美しさを感じる。

Mangrove

There is a place of mangrove in El Salvador. Riding a bit unsteady motor boat and running through the mangrove, now spreads the panoramic view of the land with volcanoes and a mountain range from the big ocean. At the place to eat that was built in a project of aqua farming of shellfish where a JOCV is working, we can not only eat delicious fish and shellfish, but also we can enjoy the water that has high transparency.

In the mangrove, they fish shellfish but recently for its overfishing, the number is decreasing, so the skills of aqua farming is been transferred.

Finding pretty birds resting on the mangrove tree that looked quite dignified, buds of mangrove floating at the seashore, groups of little fish and numerous helmet crabs moving around in the water, etc. is abundant natural beauty that is actually not ready to welcome so many tourists yet.
