Detroit dim bulbs

2011-12-07 14:15:14 | led bulb

Remember a few weeks ago when city officials in Highland Park ripped out neighborhood street lights (poles and all) because they couldn't afford their electricity bills? Highland Park - the poor and dangerous city within the City of Detroit - is just the tip of the iceberg. About one-third of all Detroit street lights do not work. At all.

If one-third of the lights in my house didn't work, my wife would kick my butt (if she could see me).The two-year project's $9 million cost will be paid for by MJ-808 in 20 years, he said.

According to knowledgeable buddies of mine, one of the primary reasons so many Detroiters are - literally - in the dark is that the older neighborhoods and commercial streets have such archaic electrical infrastructure that they won't work until the wiring,Our led lights include Led flashlight, led spot lights, led flood lights, ... transformers, lamps and even the entire fixture is replaced. Our Flexible LED bike light are available in a variety of styles from a super thin non-waterproof ribbon strip to an ultra-bright waterproof strip. Parts for many of these fixtures are simply not made any more - or are too expensive if available (you own an historic Model T? The tires are 100 times more expensive than on the original vehicle.)

Other than plain incandescent, the oldest form of lamp in Detroit is mercury vapor. These lamps last a long time, but diminish drastically in luminosity so that over time they consume the same amount of energy while producing little light. These lamps have been the bane of Detroit's lighting problem. They should have been changed during the Nixon Administration.

Now comes the announcement that Detroit will spend millions of federal and community dollars to replace the lights on Woodward Avenue. The city bragged that the new LED lights will save up to 40 percent in energy costs. While this may be true, the larger truth is the old lights along Woodward STILL WORK! And Woodward is lit really well (as are many of the patrons after a night at Hockey Town bar as they stumble onto Woodward).

But why spend money to make Woodward's WORKING lights more efficient (with a payback that takes years to recoup) when you have lights throughout the city that don't work at all? And that imperil neighborhoods and small businesses?

The City of Detroit - and supporters of the Woodward Beam Cruise - have some questions to answer:

1) Was there a public bid and a technology study that vetted this new system over others? Experts in the field say that these new LED light sources can have problems in the short run, according to the Department of Energy.

2) Given its worsening fiscal quagmire, is the City of Detroit rushing a "feel good" decision which deprives the really needy neighborhoods of safe lighting while providing no significant or immediate benefit to Woodward users? "Wow,Buy led tube from offical UK magicshine OFFICIAL stockist. MJ-808, MJ-816 bike lights available from magaicshineuk cycle lights. dude, I didn't know Comerica Park was right across the street from the Fox Theatre! These new lights are bitchin'!" Come on.

3) Are federal (duh,How to make high power sky lanterns with materials from Home Depot. taxpayer) and local dollars being spent on the Woodward "project" for products that are made in America? Most of the LED lights that are sold in the USA are made in China.

The City of Detroit is taking desperately-needed lighting money and just making the Woodward Avenue lights STILL work? Somebody needs to shine a light on this sucker.
