在日米軍基地に関してよくある誤解があります。それは、日本における全ての米軍施設の75％かそれ以上が
沖縄に集中していると言われていることです。これは事実ではありません。
実際には、米国の専用施設の39％、全ての地位協定メンバーの49％が沖縄に存在しています。
米国管理施設の大部分は沖縄以外の場所に位置しています。さらに、米軍はその施設が、基地の81％に
おける自衛隊との共同使用の提供を含め、同盟の最大限の利益のために活用されるよう努めています。
本州には52の米軍施設があります。これらの施設の中で、横田基地、キャンプ座間、横須賀基地、
佐世保基地は国連軍補給基地として指定されています。日本政府と国連との地位協定のもと、これらの
基地を経由して国連軍を韓国へ移送することが可能となっています。
沖縄には33の米軍施設があります。
これらの施設の中で、嘉手納基地、普天間基地、そしてホワイトビーチ海軍施設もまた国連軍補給基地として
指定されています。
52の本州と33の沖縄の米軍施設には、空軍基地のような大きなものからレーダー基地や宿泊施設のような

USFJ FACT OF THE WEEK
There is a common misperception about U.S. military bases in Japan. It is often said that 75% or more of all American military facilities in Japan are located on Okinawa. This is a misrepresentation of the facts.
In fact, 39% of US exclusive use facilities and 49% of total SOFA-members reside in Okinawa. The majority of US-administered facilities are located outside of Okinawa. Further, the US military has gone to great lengths to ensure that its facilities and areas are used to the maximum benefit to the alliance, including the provision of joint-use with the JSDF at 81% of those bases.
There are 52 US military facilities on mainland Japan. Among those facilities, Yokota Air Base, Camp Zama, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, and Fleet Activities Sasebo are designated as United Nations Support Bases. Under the United Nations Command Status Of Forces Agreement with the Government of Japan, these bases can be used to flow United Nations Forces to Korea.
There are 33 US military facilities on Okinawa. Among those facilities, Kadena Air Base, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, and White Beach Naval Facility are also designated as United Nations Support Bases.
The 52 mainland and 33 Okinawa US military facilities range in size and acreage from as big as an air base to some very small facilities such as radar sites and lodging facilities.
