Tennis Friends

I have been playing tennis for three years and have made many friends by participating in various events and tournaments. Whenever I go to play somewhere, I meet people whom I have played with before. The other day I was standing by a court and a lady who was walking by said hello to me. She said she remembered me playing tennis next to their court the day before. It's really nice to make many friends.

テニスを始めて約3年、いろいろなイベントやトーナメントに参加しました。
どこにテニスをしに行っても、以前一緒にテニスをした人に会うようになりました。
先日、コートに立っていたら、女性に「こんにちは」と声を掛けられました。
昨日、彼女のプレイするコートの隣で、私が友達をテニスをしていたそうです
友達がたくさんできて嬉しいです

Kind Neighbors

When we had snow last week, I got up the next day and saw our neighbor cleaning the narrow road in front of our house. He is retired and slim, so I felt really bad about him doing the cleaning, with me being inside. I see other neighbors sweeping and picking up trash in our neighborhood all the times and it is really nice to live among such kind people.

先週、雪が降り、翌朝起きると、隣の家のおじさんが
我が家の前の狭い道の雪かきをしてくれていました。
退職した、痩せた方なので、家の中にいるのが、とても気まずかったです。
雪に限らず、隣近所の人たちが、いつも家の周りを掃除してくれいるのを
見掛けます親切なご近所さんに囲まれてしあわせです

Book Cover

I have always wondered why bookstores in Japan put book-covers on the books people buy. Someone told me that because Japanese do not want to show other people what kind of book they are reading, they hide the cover page. Is this really true? I have never seen it done in other countries.

不思議に思うことのひとつに、
なぜ日本では、本を買うと、ブックカバーをつけるのでしょうか
ある人に聞いたところは、たぶん日本人は自分がどんな本を読んでいるのか
他の人に見られたくないから、カバーページをカバーしているのだよと言っていました。
本当にそうなのでしょうか
他の国で、本にカバーをしているのを見たことがなかったもので・・・

Wide Cute Eyes

While my wife and I were waiting to get into an elevator in a hot spring hotel, the doors opened, with three little boys inside. As soon as the children saw me (a foreigner), their eyes and mouths opened wide, staring at me with amazement. Oh No! A Foreigner! They looked so cute and innocent. My wife and I waited for the next elevators because we did not want scare the little kids.

温泉のホテルで妻とエレベーターを待っていたところ
ドアが開いたら、３人の小さな兄弟が乗っていました
３人は私（外国人）を見たとたん
目と口を大きく開けて　固まってしまいました
ウァー外国人３人のかわいかったこと…
妻と私は、３人を怖がらせないように、次のエレベーターを待つことにしました

Good Manners

While eating at an all-you-can eat restaurant, I noticed that Japanese usually make sure that they finish everything they have put on their plates. Unfortunately, sometimes that is not the case in America. People take more than they can eat and then the left over has to be thrown away. This is waste. I wish some Americans would learn from Japanese and appreciate the value of food.

食べ放題のレストランに行って思うのですが
日本人は食べられる量だけお皿に取ります。
残念ながら、アメリカでは必ずしも、そうではありません
食べきれない量の食べ物をお皿に盛り、残してしまい、
最後は、捨てることになってしまいます。「もったいないです。」
そのようなアメリカ人は、日本人から学び、食べ物を大切にして欲しいです
