『金枝篇』

J・G・フレイザー と言えば「金枝篇」なのですが、、、、その中でいやな物語を読んだ

記憶があります。東欧のアルバニアだかどこだかの「建築家に影を売る男」の話です。

「金枝篇」自体は、王権交代の時の「王様殺しの話」かな?と思って読んだのですが

(それも、放っておけば病気で死ぬのに、わざわざ殺すみたいな、、、)、建築家と呼ばれ

る人も、何かの事情で殺されるのは嫌ですから(どうしても、そういうことが起こるん

でしょうね、、、商売柄なんとなく判るんです、、、)、身代わりになって殺される

「影」を、お金で買うし、その「影」を売るのを商売にする男がいた、と言う話です。

日本で言えば築城の時の「人柱」みたいな話なのですが、読んだ時に嫌な気持ちになっ

たのを覚えています。私自身は、自分で自分の事を「建築家」と思ってもいませんし、

呼ばれたいとも思っていません。現場では「設計屋さーん」と呼ばれると「はい」と

返事します。でも中には「先生」って呼ばれないと振り返らない「建築家の先生」も

いるんだそうです。(あくまでも私の地元での伝聞ですが、、、、)

この文庫本は1970年代の後半の頃まで長いこと絶版だったような気がします。神保町の

文庫本専門古書店でもなかなか見つからない時代がありました。(今は簡単に入手可能。)

この本を戦前の日本人の二人に一人でも読んでいれば、あんな戦争起こらなかったかも

知れません。学問が役に立たなかった例です。(ちなみに折口信夫さんは大正の終わりか

昭和の始めには読んでいたのではないでしょうか?寺山修司さんはかなり若い頃に読んで

いたように思われます。詩や演劇などは、ちょっと考えると世の中の役には立たないよう

にも思われますが、どっこい、役に立たないことが本当は大事なのかも知れません。)

I trace it all back to that
Her, and the snow, and the Seine
Smiling through it,
She said she’d do it… Again



この歌詞の中では、poets(詩人), plays(演劇)と、もうひとつThe painters(画家)

も入っています。最後のほうの、the Seine(セーヌ川)は、the Sand(砂)なのか良く

判りません、、、。Sand　には「時間」とか「(人の)寿命」という意味もあるみたいで

、調べたら　the snow　には「白髪(しらが)」という意味もあるようです、、、。
