Yngwie Malmsteen、MSG、およびTNTのようなアーティストたちに強く影響を及ぼされ、Thin Lizzy、Judas Priest、およびIron Maidenといった70年代と80年代前半の古典的ツイン・ギター・バンドをいくらかモデルとしたバンドは、元々、REVELATIONと呼ばれて、2人のギタリストがいたバンドのメンバーたちによって1985年秋にノルウェーのクリスチャンサンで結成されました。

リハーサルは、アメリカ生まれのマークがバンドの最初のデモと'87年6月の初ライヴ同行のために加入する'87年前半まで、歌手なしで続けられました。

その当時、故郷クリスチャンサンで歓迎されたバンドは翌年ノルウェーの南部をまわる数回のギグを行い、'88年の春に新しいデモを作りました。 オスロでのローカル・ラジオ放送を受けた結果、バンドにはオランダのレーベルCNRのローカル事務所によって契約がもたらされました。 フル・レンス・デビューCD「Messengers of Love」は'88年の7月/8月にノルウェーのハマールにあるLoud Level Studiosにてレコーディングされ、バンドはレーベルにいる別のバンドとの名前闘争のため、SEVENTH SEALに改名しました。

しかしながら作品が仕上がった時、レーベルはバンドを冷遇し、それを決してリリースしませんでした。レーベルのプッシュに失望させられたにもかかわらず、バンドは'89年夏まで活発なライヴで踏み止まり押し上げ、ついにスタジオが自らのレーベル、Loud Level Recordsにてアルバムをリリースすることを決めますが、1990年まででなくバンドが既に解散してしまった後でした。アルバムは適切にプロモートされずに、コピー約1000枚だけが今までにリリースされました。
