Chikuyu-ryo is one of the dormitories that belongs to Komazawa University. The residents must be the students of the Buddhist faculty of the university and must have been qualified as the monks of Soto-shu (one of the major Japanese Buddhist schools) before they enter the univ. The residents go to school during daytime and spend the rest of their daily lives just like the trainees in Zen training temples practicing Zazen, ceremonies and cleaning (samu) in Buddhist traditional way under the instructions of Ryokan (superintendent).
