F1 バンドーン Q3へ進出できなかった事は戦略的に有利！

15:51 – McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne believes missing out on a spot in Q3 at the Japanese Grand Prix is beneficial, as it permits him free tyre choice for the opening stint of the race.

Vandoorne provisionally held a space inside the top 10 but was bumped out during the closing stages of Q2 by team-mate Fernando Alonso, who went just 0.029s quicker.

As a result, Vandoorne qualified in 11th place, but will move up to ninth on the grid due to penalties for Alonso and Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen.

"That was actually a pretty good session for me," said Vandoorne.

"Not getting through into Q3 isn't actually that bad because it means I can start the race on a new tyre tomorrow.

"Starting from ninth is pretty decent, and, on a new tyre, it should make for a good day.

"We'll definitely be looking to benefit from that tomorrow."
