『古事記』雄略天皇 3
天皇幸行吉野宮之時、吉野川之濱、有童女、其形姿美麗。故婚是童女而、還坐於宮。後更亦幸行吉野之時、留其童女之所遇、於其處立大御吳床而、坐其御吳床、彈御琴、令爲儛其孃子。爾因其孃子之好儛、作御歌、其歌曰、
阿具良韋能 加微能美弖母知 比久許登爾 麻比須流袁美那 登許余爾母加母
卽幸阿岐豆野而、御獦之時、天皇坐御吳床。爾𧉫咋御腕、卽蜻蛉來、咋其𧉫而飛。訓蜻蛉云阿岐豆。於是作御歌、其歌曰、
美延斯怒能 袁牟漏賀多氣爾 志斯布須登 多禮曾 意富麻幣爾麻袁須 夜須美斯志 和賀淤富岐美能 斯志麻都登 阿具良爾伊麻志 斯漏多閇能 蘇弖岐蘇那布 多古牟良爾 阿牟加岐都岐 曾能阿牟袁 阿岐豆波夜具比 加久能碁登 那爾淤波牟登 蘇良美都 夜麻登能久爾袁 阿岐豆志麻登布
故、自其時、號其野謂阿岐豆野也。
≪英訳≫
Emperor Yūryaku, when he visited Yoshino Palace, there, by the bank of the Yoshino River, he saw a young maiden of exquisite beauty. He took her in marriage and brought her back to the palace. Later, when he visited Yoshino again, he remembered the place where he had met the young maiden. He placed a large royal seat there, sat on the royal seat, played the koto, and had the maiden dance. Impressed by the maiden’s dancing, he composed a song, which goes as follows:
“The maiden who dances so gracefully,
With a beauty as radiant as the morning sun,
I wish her to remain with me forever,
As we enjoy the melodies of the koto.”
Subsequently, when the Emperor visited the Aki-zuno region for hunting, he sat on his royal seat. A horsefly bit his arm, but a dragonfly swiftly came and devoured the horsefly. In response to this event, the Emperor composed another song, which goes:
“In the mountains of Yoshino,
Where wild boars roam,
Who informed His Majesty
Of the presence of a boar?
The Emperor, who understands all under Heaven,
Waited for the boar,
Adorned in white sleeves,
A horsefly landed on His Majesty’s arm,
Which the dragonfly quickly consumed.
Henceforth, in this land of Yamato,
It shall be known as the Island of Dragonflies.”
From that time onward, this place Yamato was called Akizu-no (Island of Dragonflies).
≪この英文の和訳≫
雄略天皇が吉野の宮においでになったとき、吉野川のほとりに、その美しい乙女がおりました。雄略天皇は彼女との結婚を選び、彼女を宮殿にお迎えになりました。その後、再び吉野を訪れた時、天皇はかつて彼女に出会った場所を思い出されました。天皇はそこに立派な王座を設け、そこに座り、琴を奏で、その乙女を舞わせられました。乙女の踊りに感銘を受け、天皇は次のような御歌をお詠みになりました。
優美に舞うその乙女は、
朝日のような輝きを持ち、
彼女と共に永遠に過ごしたいと思う。
琴の調べを楽しむ中で
その後、天皇が狩猟のためにアキヅ野を訪れられた際、王座にお座りになりました。ところが、虻(あぶ)が腕を咋(く)いましたが、すぐにトンボが現れ、虻を咋(く)ってしまいました。この出来事に触発され、天皇は次のような御歌をお詠みになりました。
吉野の山々で、
猪が闊歩する場所で、
陛下に猪の存在を知らせたのは誰だろう？
天下をしろしめす陛下は、
猪を待つ間、
白い袖に身を包み、
虻が陛下の腕に触れましたが、
トンボがこれをすぐに食べてしまった。
これからは、大和のこの地は、
「トンボの島」として知られるだろう
それ以降、この場所大和(ヤマト)はアキヅ野(トンボの島)と呼ばれています。
