Bob likes going up mountains, and went to climb the Alps on his holidays. He wanted to try a difficult mountain, so he employed a Swiss guide who knew very well about it. At first the way was easy, but in a while they came to a difficult place. The guide stopped, turned and said to Bob. "This is a dangerous place. Be careful. But if you fall, don't forget to look right while you are going down." "Why?" asked Bob. "There is a very beautiful view ― much more beautiful than the one you can see from here," answered the guide.
One of the most important things to remember when making a public speech in English is the opening. You should not begin your speech with phrases like "I am no speaker ...", "I am not prepared to talk ...", or "I have nothing to say ...". If you open in this way, the audience will think that there is no point in listening further. Rather, you should call attention to the interesting points in your speech. Then the audience will look forward to what you have to say. Be positive, and your listeners will respond positively.
In this plastic age, when most of us live in large cities, pets are particularly important for children. A pet in the family keeps people in touch with the more natural, animal world. Seeing an animal give birth brings understanding of the naturalness of childbirth, and seeing a pet die helps a child to cope with sorrow. Learning to care for a pet helps a child to grow up into a loving adult who feels responsible towards those dependent on him or her. Rightly, we teach children to be good to their pets. They should learn, too, that pets are good for us human beings.
I have an aunt who can't walk and has to use a wheelchair when she goes out. She lives with an assistance dog. His name is Kenny. Kenny is always with her and does many things for her. He brings the things my aunt needs. He opens the door for her. He goes shopping with her. When she goes to work, he goes there with her. And they sometimes take a walk in the park together. He helps her to do many kinds of things. Kenny is a good partner for my aunt.
