　One of the most important things to remember when making a public speech in English is the opening. You should not begin your speech with phrases like "I am no speaker ...", "I am not prepared to talk ...", or "I have nothing to say ...".  If you open in this way, the audience will think that there is no point in listening further.  Rather, you should call attention to the interesting points in your speech.  Then the audience will look forward to what you have to say.  Be positive, and your listeners will respond positively.
