Fruit of the Spirit – Love

「しかし、御霊の実は、愛、喜び、平和、寛容、親切、善意、誠実、柔和、自制です。このようなものを禁じる律法はありません。」（ガラテヤ5:22-23）

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

愛はすべてを征服します。愛は勝利します。しかし、まず愛です。

Love conquers all. Love wins. But first, love.

これらすべての格言は、過去数年間、文化の中で広まり、愛の定義とそれがすべてに勝るものであることを強調してきました。

All of these sayings have circled culture the past couple of years, emphasizing the definition of love and how it trumps all.

しかし、愛の重要性とは何でしょうか?

But what’s the importance of love?

さて、ここで私たちは聖書に目を向けることができます。

Well, this is when we can turn to Scripture.

私たちのほとんどは、ほとんどすべての結婚式で読まれる一節に飛びつくことができます。

Most of us can jump to the passage that is read at almost any wedding.

「愛は忍耐強く、愛は情け深い。愛はねたまない。愛は自慢しない。愛は無礼ではない。愛は利己的ではない。愛は怒らない。愛は悪を喜ばないで真実を喜ぶ。愛は常に守り、常に信頼し、常に希望し、常に忍耐する。愛は決して絶えることがない。しかし、預言はやみ、異言は静まり、知識は廃れる。」 (コリント人への第一の手紙 13:4-8)

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

It is a very quotable verse and it is printed on so much home decor that it is almost a guarantee to see this sign at any home.

But what about the rest of what Scripture says?

“Love binds us in perfect unity.” (Colossians 3:14)

「愛はすべての悪を覆う。」箴言（10:12）

“Love covers all wrongs.” Proverbs (10:12)

「愛のない者は神を知りません。神は愛だからです。」（ヨハネ第一4:8）

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

神は愛です。ヨハネの手紙一第4章19節には、神がまず私たちを愛してくださったからこそ、私たちは愛するのだ、と書かれています。

God is love. 1 John 4:19 says that we love because He first loved us.

神が私たちに愛を知らせてくださったので、私たちは愛を知ることができます。神は愛なので、神が関与しない限り私たちの愛は無意味です。

We are able to know love because God allowed us to. Our love is meaningless unless God is involved because God is love.

神と愛は調和してのみ共存します。神は愛です。真の愛を知ることは、神の性格を少し知ることです。

God and love only exist together in harmony. God is love. To know true love is to know a bit of God’s character.

神がまず私たちを愛してくださったからこそ、私たちは他の人や神を愛することができるのです。この祈りのテーマである「聖霊の実」に話を戻すと、愛は私たちの内にある神の霊から流れ出る実であると理解できます。

We are able to love others and God because He first loved us. To tie back into the theme of these devotionals, Fruit of the Spirit, we can understand that love is a fruit that flows out of us from the spirit of God within us.

ですから、私たちが外に出て隣人を愛するとき、私たちは、神がまず私たちを愛してくださったからこそ愛することができるのであり、私たちが愛するとき、神の精神が私たちから流れ出るのだということを認めることができます。

So when we go out and love our neighbors, we can acknowledge that we are able to love because God first loved us and that it is the spirit of God flowing from us when we love.
