○Regarding the Lowering of Consciousness Level in Adolescence
The fact that it is easy to perceive gaps in consciousness during adolescence means that the level of consciousness is prone to decline. In natural disasters such as major earthquakes, people call out for divine help from the bottom of their hearts, and it is at such times that the level of consciousness tends to decrease.
One might think that adolescents, if left alone, would not meditate, but rather, precisely because adolescence is a turbulent crisis, there are often times when they seek something divine from the depths of their hearts. This can be the motivation for meditation. Knowing how to sit is important at such times.
In this way, adolescence as a whole generation is in a state where it is easy to perceive gaps in consciousness, that is, a state where the level of consciousness tends to decline. On the other hand, it is prophesied that there will be a time in the future when the entire human race will experience a decline in the level of consciousness as they earnestly seek divine help.
One instance is a passage from the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament, and the other is the Omoto Shin'yu's "The year when even the ears of common people will hear (the chrysanthemum)."
A decline in the level of consciousness means that one's true feelings are exposed. In the aftershocks immediately following the Great East Japan Earthquake, many people undoubtedly inwardly sought the help of gods and Buddhas each time the emergency earthquake alert sounded. That is one example.
The following is a thought that came to mind, but might the entire human race see a decline in the level of consciousness in the future under the following scenario?
The Western camp and China/Russia each drop an atomic bomb on one of their major cities. The devastation of the nuclear attacks is transmitted worldwide through social media and videos. In the 1983 movie The Day After, Kansas City and Brussels are destroyed by nuclear bombs. Dante Daishi watched this movie and, noting the well-done depiction of the devastation, suggested that something similar would occur in the future.
In modern times, the network of nuclear missile attacks has become so developed that after the destruction of these two major cities, everyone will constantly be in fear, thinking that it would not be surprising if their own city were to be nuclear-attacked at any time. At this time, a decline in the level of consciousness will occur as all of humanity prays for divine help. *People are only truly conscious and awake when they have a knife pointed at them by a robber demanding money (a theory of Osho Bhagwan). This is the mechanism by which the fear of being killed awakens people and makes them serious. Dante Daishi called this the "grace of fear." At that stage, people will be driven to become either those who turn to stone and refuse to hear or see, those who go mad (commit suicide), or those who attain enlightenment.
Despite such unstable but sincere wishes of the entire human race, a full-scale nuclear war eventually breaks out.
