The Road Not Taken

アメリカの有名な詩人の
Robert FrostのThe Road Not Takenと言うのがある。
私は人生の節目に何故かこの詩を思い出す。

　　　　　　　　The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

私の一番大好きな詩である。

選ばれなかった道。

森の中を歩いていて、
急に道が二手に分かれてしまったら、
どちらの道を選ぶだろう？

ほとんど人が歩いたことのない草に覆われた道だろうか、
それとも、多くの人が既に歩いたはっきりした
（切り開かれた）道だろうか？
両方の道について注意深く考えた後で、
詩の作者は、草の生い茂った道
（あるいは、通った人のより少ない道）を選ぶのである。
そして、この選択が大きな違いをもたらしたと彼は言うのである。
人生における選択である。

人生の中で一体何度こんな場面に出くわすだろう。

私は今派遣で秘書をしている。
２年前の選択肢に大手の化学メーカーの海外営業事務と
今の個人秘書の仕事が同時に来た。
本来なら、海外営業事務の方が
希望であったが、
主人曰く”君の能力では戦場に行って直ぐに撃ち殺されるよ”
と自信満々に言われたので、（私もそう思った）
直ぐに個人秘書を選択した。
ふと、”あの頃化学メーカーを選択していたら？”
と考えることがある。多分世界同時経済危機でリストラに合って
いただろうが・・

でも、
もしかしたら、行かなかった道もまた人生の一部なのだろうか・・

For Boomers, recession is redefining retirement

Kyril Wickenberg, 59, of Savannah,
Ga., is back in college studying for
a degree in information technology
after losing several jobs as IT companies trimmed payrolls.

They grew up during a time of cultural change,
and now are being forced to redefine retirement at midlife.

今朝USA TODAY を見ていたら、こんな記事が載っていた。
59歳で趣味でまた大学に戻る人なら沢山いると思うが、
この年齢で再就職の為に又、大学に・・

日本では信じられない事だが、再就職もそれ以上の給料を確保する事も、
アメリカでは十分に通用する。
年齢い関しての差別はないから。
これから比べると日本は何と生き難い国なんだろう。

Heaven and Hell: The Real Difference

A man spoke with the Lord about heaven and hell.

The Lord said to the man, 'Come, I will show you hell.'

They entered a room where a group of
people sat around a huge pot of stew.
Everyone was famished, desperate and starving.
Each held a spoon that reached the pot,
but each spoon had a handle so much longer
than their own arm that it could not be used to get
the stew into their own mouths.
The suffering was terrible.

'Come, now I will show you heaven,' the Lord said after a while.

They entered another room,
identical to the first-the pot of stew,
the group of people, the same long-handled spoons.
But there everyone was happy and well-nourished.

'I don't understand,' said the man. '
Why are they happy here when
they were miserable in the other
room and everything was the same?'

The Lord smiled. "Ah, it is simple,'
he said. 'Here they have learned to feed each other.'

子供の頃読んだ寓話のイソップ物語を思い出す。
この物語の中に、”生き方”が全て凝縮しているように思えるが？

Seize the Opportunity and no Regrets

私の中で一番怖いものは、夜のとばりかもしれない。
こんな時に死を考えたら・・
とめども無く深い闇に追い込まれていく様で、
気が狂いそうになる事がある。
人は一人で生まれ、一人で死んで行く。
そこには主人がいても、子供がいても、
結局は人間、皆孤独なのではないだろうか？

時々思う事がある。私が言葉を探しているのか？
それとも言葉が私を見つけてくれるのか？
偶然こんな文章に出会った。

I truly believe that if you live your life
with the goal to have no regrets
at the time of death you will live a wonderful life.
Don’t harm, don’t waste time and don’t miss opportunities.
These three things are essential.
This is the most important thing of all.
If you have spent your life harming people
your death will be an occasion full of fear and regret.
If, however, you have spent your days
helping people and lived a loving and caring life
there will be no cause for fear at the time of death.
Why would there be?
How could anything bad come from a life spent helping others?

Your goal is to make these things happen.
The time to train for death is today.
The method is remembering the truth of impermanence.
Seize the Opportunity and no Regrets。

これをマントラの様に唱えろと？（苦笑）

See you in the morning

以前”千の風になって”が流行ったが、私が10年前にカナダで購入した、
”Chicken Soup for the Soul"の中に、こんなshort storyがある。

My mom made a most unusual request before her dying hours.

"Do not bring any flowers to my grave becouse I won't be there.
When I get rid of this body, I am flying to Europe.
Your father would never take me."

My mom made a most unuseual request and she smile and said "
see you in the morning".Two days later, mom
died and when we came accross a huge file of her writings,
one piece of paper fell to the floor.

"The Legacy"
When I die, give what is left of me to children.
I want to leave you with something,
something better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I have known and loved.
And if you cannot live without me,
then let me live on in your eyes,
your mind and your acts of kindness.
So when all this is left of me is Love...

何時か両親が亡くなって、両親に逢いたくなったら、
鏡の中の自分に逢えばいい。
”let me live on in your eyes,
your mind and your acts of kindness.”

なんと素敵な遺言なんだろう。

Sense of a Goose

Here is my favorite short story.

When you see geese flying along in "V" formation,
you might consider what science has discovered as to
why they fly that way:

As each bird flaps its wings,
it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following.
By flying in "V" formation,
the whole flock adds at least 71 percent
greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

When a goose falls out of formation,
it suddenly feels the drag
and resistance of trying to go it alone,
and quickly gets back into formation
to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

When the head goose gets tired,
it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point.

Geese honk from behind to encourage those up
front to keep up their speed.

When a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshot,
and falls out of formation,
two other geese fall out with that goose
and follow it down to lend help and protection.
They stay with the fallen goose
until it is able to fly or until it dies,
and only then do they launch out on their own,
or with another formation to catch up with their group.

If We have the sense of a goose,
We will stand by each other like that.

She was labelled "Susie Simple"

彼女の生い立ちが気になって、色々調べてみた。
彼女はアイルランドの移民の両親の一番末っ子で生まれている。
彼女のお母さんは、今の彼女と同じ年齢、47歳で彼女を生んでいる。
難産で、酸素不足の為に”発達生涯”と診断されている。
その為にいじめっ子の標的となり、幼少の時期を過ごしている。
She was labelled "Susie Simple" but now she went global.

私の嫌いな言葉だ！"labelled"
Laball is for wine, label is for food,
but label is for not people!!

彼女はCBSのインタヴューで、こんな事を明かしている。
The ones who were mean to me are now nice to me,
Susan revealed during her interview with CBS,
a reference, surely, to those people
who have teased and tormented her over the years.

これからきっと彼女の周りにはこんな人達が集まってくるのだろう。

Boyle is well aware that the audience
on "Britain's Got Talent"
was initially hostile to her because of her appearance,
but she has refused to change her image:

”I know what they were thinking, but
why should it matter as long as I can sing?
It’s not a beauty contest.”

彼女らしい言葉。ずっとこのままの彼女でいて欲しいが・・・
今年の暮れにはきっと億万長者になっている事だろう。

英語の衰え

最近痛切に英語の衰えを感じている。
仕事の緊張感も薄らいだ気がする。
”慣れ”はある意味で仕事のミスを誘発する。

自分を律する事が出来るのは、自分だけ。
私の中の悪魔と天使が葛藤している。（苦笑）
もう、語学はコツコツ蟻さんの努力しかない。
分かってはいるのだが・・・

2000万出して、知識が買えるなら、
借金してでも買うだろう。
ネイティブ・スピーカーに成れるなら、
どんな事をしても、お金をかき集めるだろう。
悲しいかな？こんな事を考えている自分がいる。（苦笑）

大人の野良猫達は子猫よりも、慣れるまでは少し時間が掛かりますが、
