Dali Well, let me tell you. Consider an English conversation class in Japan. A Japanese student asks the native English-speaking teacher, “Where are you from?” The sensei replied, “Oh, I’m from Los Angeles.” And the conversation continues. At one point, the strange question pops up. The student asks, “In LA, do you have four seasons?” This is a common question from Japanese, and the sensei will be floored at the stupidity of the question.

Dali You fool! You know Tokyo is at the same latitude as LA. Do you not know that within a temperate zone (at which Japan and the US reside), there are four seasons? The earth’s axis is slightly tilted in relation to its orbit around the sun. This is why all areas in the temperate zones have seasons. Why do you say such foolish things?

Dali Well, there are well-known two definitions. These are the astronomical and the meteorological definitions.

Dali Yes. Now, according to the astronomical definition, spring begins on the vernal equinox, summer begins on the summer solstice, fall begins on the autumnal equinox, and winter begins on the winter solstice.

Dali On the other hand, according to the meteorological definition, spring runs from March 1 to May 31, summer from June 1 to August 31, fall from September 1 to November 30, and winter from December 1 to February 28.

I found on the Internet that the Japan Meteorological Agency defines four seasons. They define the seasons as follows: spring runs from March to May; summer from June to August; autumn from September to November; and winter from December to February. Amazing! That’s exactly the same as the meteorological seasons that Dali explained.
