New York City ペンシルバニアからニューヨークへ・・・

Driving all the way from Pensylvania to New York in good autumn weather.  Under low price of crude oil infuluence ??  Gas price was almost half as much as one in Japan.

さてペンシルバニアからニューヨークへ移動。ガソリンが原油安のせいか？リッター63円。日本のガソリン価格はヤッパおかしい。

Here in Manhattan it's still in a boom in building construction. Tall buildings increases whenever I stop by. In particular there are many high-class apartments and property prices in prime locations are getting higher and higher ! 

建築ラッシュなマンハッタン。高級億ションビックリ価格。

And it makes the price of real estate in other side of river higher, too.

Instead, in both New Jersey side - Hoboken or Union City- and Booklyn side the crime rate is lower than it used to be and it makes them easy places in which to live.

マンハッタンが高騰して川の向こうの周囲の不動産価格も上昇。反面、治安も改善されつつある。

 

Be that as it may many of classic buildings are carefully conserved without teardown.

It must be good example for Tokyo to follow.

 

古い建物もこわさず維持。東京もお手本にしたらいい。

There's a my favorite place called "the High Line" It's a park and stores "Chelsea Market" on an elevated section of a disused rairoad withought reconstructions.   There we can enjoy some updated restaurants and food stores. This is a typoical one, "Beyond Sushi NYC - The Green Roll"

"Ninth Street Espresso" always serves good "high-end" coffee. 

ここのコーヒーも美味しい。ここで飲んだ後は何とかバックスに行けなくなる。

 

Chelsea Creamline's ice cream is the best in town ! they say "farm to tray".

最高なソフトクリームの味。まろやかなのに硬めで、甘さがちょうど良く、使用している牛乳がフレッシュだから臭みがない。

 

Lobster sandwitches at The Lobster Place. Clam chowder was good.

ロブスターサンドは値段が高い。クラムチャウダーのほうが美味しいし・・・

 

After walking the High Line park we passed down through the big building to the street we saw the bag dispay on a shelving unit occupying one huge wall. It ws the headquater of "Coach" as we found out soon after.

ハイラインを散策して終わりの所のビルから外に出ようとしたら、バッグ一面のディスプレイ！コーチの本社でしたァ。

The next day it was a bummer at the night ! The center of Manhattan are were was inundated with many of NYPD officers, presspeople and curious crowd. Sidewalks were flooded with such people and we took so long to get to the subway station. After I got back in our hotel in Long Island, we tuned into TV programs covering the elections and they are all reporting "unexpected happening".

別の日は大統領選開票日の夜、両候補もNYCに滞在。報道・警察。野次馬で歩道が進まない。まるで「おとり様」か「明治神宮初詣」の夜のようだった。宿に帰って選挙速報のビックリ開票結果！翌朝、テレビ番組がなんとなくシュンとしていた。多くの人がこの時点では「ええんかいな？」ってな印象だった。とにかくどこに行っても高速走っても警察車両の大行列。選挙が終わったら抗議デモ。NYPDっていう四文字をしばらく見たくなくなった。

NYC is always busy night and day. it's a kind of peculiar town and not like other cities in the US. We always spend tiring days here....

ニューヨーク中心部はいつ行っても疲れる街でここは特異なアメリカだ。観光客がよく行くNYとハワイとLAだけ見てアメリカを語っちゃいけないことを痛感する。

Martin Factory マーチンギター工場

アレンタウンのアンティークの催しの前にペンシルバニア州ナザレスにあるマーチンの工場に立ち寄る。

Before attending an antique event in Allentown, we stopped at Martin Factory in Nazareth, PA. 

 

工場見学は時間がなくて諦めたけれど、常設の博物館ではスゴイものが沢山見れた。このギターは創業者5のC.F.マーチンが1936年に祖国ドイツからニューヨークに移り住んで2年後に自ら製作したもの。

Unfortunately we have no time to join the factoy tour this time. Instead we could see a lot of historical instruments inside the permanent museum.

Old one made in 1836 by the founder C.F.Martin Senior before he moved from Germany to New York. He moved to Nazareth, PA in 1838.

昔の道具や機械の工房を再現。

The reproduced old workshop with machines and tools used at the time.

古いウクレレも結構展示してあった。

Vintage Ukuleles 

これはマーチン三世が奥さんにプレゼントした特製ウクレレのデイジー。世界にひとつ。スタイル５と同様のデザインだが材はコア材でなくマホガニーを使用。なんたるトラ目の美しさ。

Envious "Daisy" was a gift from C.F.Martin III to her wife Daisy. Although the shape looks like Style 5 this one was specially made with Mahogany wood. Amazing highly figured top !

ニューヨーク時代初期にワーリッツア−に配給したモデル。マーチンの名でなくワーリッツア−の刻印がヘッド裏にある。

1922 0-42 Wurlitzer Model The fretboard inlays are slightly different than those on a standard Style 42. It has a Wurlitzer stamp on the back of headstock.

これが1939年の000-42。現CEOのマーチン４世がクリスティのオークションで入手。価格は分からないが多分家一件買えるくらい？

000-42 made in 1939 played by the country music picker Wendel Brown. Martin IV won it in Christie's in 2008. I have no idea of the final price in the auction. i think it's probably equivalent to that of your house or more.

珍しい試作のヘッド。設計者の遊び心が見られるね。

もうチョット早ければ紅葉がもう少し色鮮やかだったのに残念。

If we came a week ago, the autumn leaves would be more reddish and yellowish.

宮古島 梅雨と共に上陸。

梅雨入りと同時に宮古島入り・・・・

宮古島には、全長3,540mの伊良部島へ渡る伊良部大橋と　来間島とをむすぶ全長1.690mの来間大橋がある。上から渡っても・・・

下からくぐっても・・・無料です。　さあ、いざダイビング。曇天で残念。

今回の下地島・伊良部島界隈のダイビング・ポイントは洞窟とかアーチとか地形が素晴らしいところが多い。お天気が良いとこの地形から太陽光線が実にキレイに見えて幻想的だが、今回は曇天か雨天で残念。

洞窟の暗いところに眠っているサメ。その名もネムリブカ。

天気は悪いが、海の生き物は魚もサンゴもすばらしい。

クマノミもいろいろいるよ。

ウツボちゃん、興奮しないでね！

海底で伊勢エビ発見！・・とおもったらコレは脱皮した抜け殻だって！それにしてもキレイに脱皮するのね。蝉みたい！

で、せっかくだから・・殻じゃない中身をごちそうさまーっ！

今回のダイビングサービスはダイブキッズさん。オーナーご夫妻はもともと埼玉出身のご夫婦で今回宿泊している東急リゾートの開業スタッフでそのまま宮古島に魅されて住み着いちゃったとのこと。ご夫婦もスタッフの椙山さんもとても親切でアットホームなダイビングサービスでした。たまたまご夫婦の娘さん、今年から大学生。あの池袋の僕らの母校だって！

このワンちゃんは　数日前から里子に来たMULUくん。とてもおとなしくてイイ子です。

これは宮古島名物・まもる君。

宮古島まもる君は島内に20体近くあるらしい。みんな兄弟でいろんな名前がついてるらしいけど、造ってた会社がもう倒産しちゃってもう造れないらしいよ。まもる君アイテムも幾つかあるけど、なんでソフビの貯金箱はないのかな・・あったら買いたかったのに。

帰る前の日、この朝　雷＆超豪雨！予定していた「カヌーで鍾乳洞探検」はキャンセル！

しかたなく宿に戻ると　やっと　太陽が照りつけてくれました〜！

ビーチでカヌー。でもこの宿、ホテル前のビーチ、砂質も透明度も最高！

帰る日も晴天！くやっしいなあ、スキューバで潜りたいけど、飛行機に乗る日は潜った後は約18時間おかないと減圧症になっちゃうので潜れない。

せっかくなんでスノーケルで亀と戯れる。スノーケルのサービスは海umi.　こちらもご夫婦でアットホームなサービス。とにかく送迎のクルマのなかからレンタル器材、世界一キチンとしていて整理整頓。こんなの見たことない！もちろんガイドのもとてるさんのガイドも親切丁寧。絶対おすすめ！

さて、お天気の悪さを食べ物で晴らそうってなわけで・・・

これはグルクンの唐揚げ。表面カリッと＆中の白身はやわらかいね。

宮古そば　が定番だけど・・・

いかすみ焼きそば。おいしいなこの方が・・・

こいつもサッと調理した感じの穫れたてのエビ。甘辛なタレとピッタリ。

これはなんとナポレオンフィッシュのお刺身。和名・メガネモチノウオってくらうだから食感もモチモチね！

ニッポンには米軍基地を除き沖縄だけしかない A&W。ルートビアにソフトクリームってそうしょっちゅう楽しめないからね。

宮古島名物　うずまきパン。いわばふっくらパンで造ったロールケーキ。ジャリジャリなグラニュー糖のホイップクリーム。甘いわ。でも昭和っぽい！

個人的には　このモンテドールっていうところのバナナケーキが美味しかった。（石垣島にもあるらしいよ）

あんまり宮古島と関係ないけど　普段　米国系エアラインのまずい飯に慣れた舌には驚きに値する　美味しかったANAの機内めし！

これは帰りの機内スナック。TETAKOYAっていう小金井のフレンチレストランの名店のものだそうだ。しっとりガトーが超・美味しい！CAのサービスの良さも涙でそう。いいな和の航空会社　ANAいいね。くわしくはwebで！

次は是非「ミレニアムファルコン」でうーんと長旅したい・・・

 お天気も残念だったし、またリベンジってことで　近々行きたいね！

南加州便り（4)

さて、これはウチの息子ちゃん、８０年代後半、５歳前後？？

Here's Shaw my son with a kids guitar in late 1980's

しばらくしてもう使わないのでこのギターをアメリカのお友達の坊やに贈ってあげた。

After a while the guitar was given to Jac, my friend's boy in California 'cause he liked playing guitar since he was a little boy.

そして嬉しいことに14歳になった今でもまだ持っていてくれている。

And now we are so happy that he still owns it though he has grown up at the age of 14.

お兄ちゃんももうすでに大学で動物心理学を専攻する学生になっている。

Left is elder brother Mac, now he is majoring in animal psychology in college.

子供の成長は早いね。

kids grow up fast ! Here's Pearce, younger bro.

ほらね、ギターも上達したよ。

See,he's got better at playing the guitar like this.
