日本の「調査捕鯨」に対して、何らかの法的措置を取るのか取らないのかハッキリしない豪政府。
そんな豪政府の態度に豪上院が業を煮やしたのか、豪政府に行動を呼びかける宣言を採択したようで・・・。

今回上院で出された宣言は、豪政府に『いい加減日本政府を違法な「調査捕鯨」のカドで訴えろゴルァ（意訳）』と呼びかけるもの。ついでに、先月 IWC 議長こと Hogath 氏が日本政府に対し提案した妥協案にも抗議するもの。

Senator Hanson-Young, at the request of Senator Siewert and pursuant to notice of motion not objected to as a formal motion, moved general business notice of motion no. 346 --That the Senate--
(a) notes that:
(i) on 25 November 2008, the Senate urged the Australian Government to set a timeline for legal proceedings in an international court to stop illegal Japanese whaling if Japan does not commit to stop whaling by 8[nbsp ]December 2008,
(ii) Japanese whaling operations continued past this deadline, and
(iii) no such legal action has been undertaken by the Government;
(b) urges the Government to:
(i) strongly oppose the proposal in the document, `The Future of the IWC', currently before the International Whaling Commission, which seeks to legitimise Japanese whaling operations, and
(ii) immediately commence international legal action to stop illegal Japanese whaling; and
(c) condemns the violent actions of the Japanese whaling fleet, who have reportedly thrown metal balls at environmental activists, and used acoustic weapons to send out painful high frequency sound waves.
Statement by leave: The Minister for Human Services (Senator Ludwig), by leave, made a statement relating to the motion.

今の所、豪政府が日本の「調査捕鯨」について具体的な行動で抗議する可能性は低いだろうな。
つーのも、日本と豪国との貿易額は結構大きいし国交関係も悪くないしな。
そこへわざわざ、火中の栗を拾う必然性は無い以上（最近の日本政府の強硬姿勢も手伝って）、豪政府にしてみれば日本の「調査捕鯨」への法的措置を起こすのは得策じゃないと踏んでるのかもな。
もっとも、今シーズン日本の「調査捕鯨」団は豪国やニュージーランドの港に寄港してないのだが。
さらに意地を張って、故障した第二勇新丸をインドネシアまで航行させて修理させる始末だし。

で、面白いのは、日本の「調査捕鯨」団が Sea Shepherd に対し色々攻撃（？）したことのみ懸念を示してること。

今日になって、約1年前に Sea Shepherd の船を「撃沈しろ」とのたまった中川 昭一氏が財務・金融担当相を辞任した。
