What is an Appendix?

Appendix (复数形式: appendices）是在一本书或文章的结尾包含附加信息的部分。我们应该把次要的数据或细节放在appendix里面，用来提供有用的上下文背景材料。

在文章的主体部分，你应该在括号中指明此处引用appendix的内容，例如:

The interviews show that most people like ice cream (see Appendix C for full trans).

Appendix的内容

Appendix可以包含很多东西，这取决于你的主题。Appendix中添加信息的常见示例包括：

Raw data from tests（测试的原始数据）

Technical figures, graphs or tables（各种技术性的图表）

Maps, charts or images（各种图像）

Letters or emails used in research（与研究相关的信件或电子邮件）

Sample questionnaires or surveys（抽样调查问卷）

Full interview trans（完整的采访记录）

我们需要在文章正文中提到appendix的内容，但不需要太过详细。例如，在论文的“results”部分总结测试结果，然后在appendix中附上完整的内容。

Appendix如何排版

在大学里，Appendix的format的规定不是统一的，所以你最好先检查学校发的指南。一般来说，Appendix应该：

出现在文档的结尾，通常在Reference之后。

根据主题划分成不同的章节（如问卷调查结果和面谈记录分成不同的页面），每个Appendix从一个新页面开始。

标上字母或数字，加上标题（附录A：仪器图表，附录B：测试结果等）。

出现在文档开头的Contents目录表中。

Appendix包含在单词计数中么？

Appendix的一大优点是它们通常不包含在论文字数中。因此，你大可不必担心字数，尽量把次要信息都放入Appendix里面，这样可以大大节省字数。

但是，记住，如果是重要信息，核心证据的话，一定要把这些信息放在正文中！不能把所有材料都放在Appendix里面！因为老师评分还是主要参考正文内容，所以critical evidence/results一定要附在正文中哦！
