FUKUSHIMA animals to be destroyed

2011-05-30 23:44:19 | Rescue days

Since the Tohoku earthquake happened, health care centers are putting off killing captured dogs and cats in Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate which were destroyed by the tsunami. There are so many pets that were separated from their owners. Dogs and cats are being treated as victims of the disaster. Some of these animals are being reunited with their owners and some are in need of finding new owners. The places that are putting off killing are all part of Miyagi, all part of Fukushima except Koriyamashi and a part of Iwate.

This is an excerpt from a newspaper published on May 15th.

It says: The places that are putting off killing are all parts of Miyagi, all parts of Fukushima except Koriyamashi.

That means that some pets are been put down in Fukushima in this situation…
We’ve been talking to government officials in Fukushima since disaster happened and they were saying they are not going to put down any animals… I thought they were going to wait at least a year.
Things have changed in just two months.
We’ve been desperate to rescue animals in Fukushima. To learn that animals that are already “safe” are being put down… this is very hard for me.

I found out that there are two dogs in a health care center in Fukushima are scheduled to be put down. These dogs might have been separated from their owners by the Tsunami.

over 2 months past...DO NOT forget about them

2011-05-30 23:35:52 | Your support!
We are running short of animal supplies, here is a list of things we
need:

・Canned dog food
・Cat's boil-in-the-bag food
・Baby
・Catnip
・food for kittens
・Cat's litter
・Litter
・Mat for litter box
・Rag
・Cat tower
・Cat toys
・Cat food dishes
・Cat water dishes
・Dog's leash (thick
・Pet poll ( a temporary pole to tether a dog to )
・Dog chain (as long as possible)
・Dog cage medium (sturdy one because they will bite it through)
・Dog cage large
・Dog cage extra large
・doghouse
・Pet carrier (in every size)
・Cat trap

To avoid the spread of infectious diseases we unfortunately can only accept unused items. We do however happily accept second-hand doghouses, which have lost their previous masters.

At the dog shelter, we keep each dog in locked kennel inside the building at night. During the day, we keep them on the leashes outside.

We will use the doghouses to shelter dogs from the sun and the rain.

I'm sorry that I cannot make the receiver's address public because
we might end up being overwhelmed by abandoned cats and dogs.
Could you please contact me by e-mail. When I put up a poster about a lost cat before, I ended up getting abandoned cats constantly and a lot of phone calls asking me to “ please take our
newborn cat” rather than any lost cat information…

The cats that I have now are mostly those abandoned cats..

It pains me to ask this, at a time when all of Japan is going through such a tough time, but we also are in great need of financial assistance. Anything you can spare will help:

Cat Shelter to be completed!!

2011-05-17 14:43:26 | Rescue days
The shelter for cats is going to be completed very soon.

There have been complaints because I have been keeping 20 dogs in the shelter on my property. Therefore I moved the dogs to other place and I decided to keep cats in my premises instead.

I’ve been looking for a prefabricated house for a long time but their prices have increased these days. There was a small house, which my father used to use before he passed away from cancer. After all, I decided to redo it and used it as a shelter for cats.

Noa-san came from Kanagawa and he is building a handmade cat tower for us.

A cat sulking in her cage.

This cage has three levels but these three cats always seem to stick together.

A cat, which looks like it’s cursing me…

I appeared on TV briefly.

Morning Show "Asa-Zuba!"
[ Regret of leaving my dog in the restricted zone – Power he gave me ]

We are currently taking care of 17 dogs and 24 cats.
Iitate-mura and a part of Kawamata is going to be a restricted zone as of the end of this month. Therefore, there are a lot of inquiries from people who want us to take care of animals from those areas…
Volunteers in Fukui helped us go to Iitate-mura and we picked up 12 cats in two days.

Sora has a shelter in Fukushima-city so many people have asked us to keep their pets there. People in Iitate-mura and Kawamata were ordered to evacuate afterwards so even people haven’t yet been provided any shelters by the government. It’s difficult to take their pets far away when owners themselves don’t know where they are going to stay.

At the beginning, I wasn’t planning to expand our shelter’s capacity. Although the administration in Fukushima can’t handle with this situation and we are now thinking of expanding the shelter.

I feel sorry for troubling you so many times, but we need your help very much…
