WASHINGTON — President Obama fired a warning shot /at Wall Street on Thursday, branding bankers “shameful”/ for giving themselves $18.4 billion in bonuses/ as the economy was spinning out of control /and the government was spending billions/ to bail out many of the nation’s most prominent financial firms.

Speaking from the Oval Office with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner by his side, Mr. Obama lashed out at the industry over a report, (compiled by the New York State comptroller, Thomas P. DiNapoli, which found that over all, financial executives received the same level of bonuses /as they had in 2004, when times were more flush.)

It was a pointed and unusual flash of anger (— if a premeditated one — from the president), and it suggested that /he intended to use his platform/ to take a hard line /against excesses in executive compensation.

“That is the height of irresponsibility,” (Mr. Obama said angrily.) “It is shameful, and part of what we’re going to need /is for folks on Wall Street /who are asking for help/ to show some restraint and show some discipline /and show some sense of responsibility

オバマ政権が始動しました。優秀な頭脳と健やかな心の大統領を擁くアメリカ、極東の日本から応援したいと思います。

「ショック療法の時」ー訳です、これはオバマ氏の演説ではなく、コラムニストの意見ですが、今回の危機の元凶にどのように対処するか、とてもよく分かりました。

“Ladies and gentlemen, this crisis started with you, the bankers, engaging in reckless practices, and it will only end /when we clean up your mess/ and start afresh. The banking system is the heart of our economy. It pumps blood/ to our industrial muscles, and right now it’s not pumping. We all know that /in the past six months /you’ve gone from one extreme to another. You’ve gone from lending money to anyone /who could fog up a knife/ to now treating all potential borrowers, no matter how healthy, as bankrupt until proven innocent. And, therefore, you’re either not lending to them /or lending under such onerous terms/ that the economy can’t get any liftoff. No amount of stimulus /will work without a healthy banking system.

“So here’s /what we’re going to do: we’re going to unclog the arteries. My banking experts have analyzed/ each of your balance sheets. You will tell us/ if we’re right. Those of you /who are insolvent, we will nationalize /and shut down. We will auction off your viable assets/ and will hold the toxic ones /in a government reconstruction fund /and sell them later /when the market rebounds. Those of you who are weak/ will be merged. And those of you who are strong/ will receive added capital /for your balance sheets, after you write down all your remaining toxic waste. I am not going to continue rewarding the losers and  dimwits amongst you /with handouts.”

 もうすぐ20日、アメリカ大統領の就任の日です、歴史的な一日がやってきます。ヒラリー候補との競り合い、共和党マケイン議員との競り合い長くタフな選挙戦でした、他所の国の選挙戦にこれほど注目したことはありませんその最中、アメリカ発サブプライム問題の激震が地球全体に津波のように拡がり、いま多くの人々は波状的に繰り返す混乱で、痛みを受け続けています。

私たちがどこに向かうのか？不安を抱きながら、それでも希望を持とうとするのは、『真っ当に考える人がいて、方向を決定する透明性の高いシステムがあり、だから効率的で実行力のある意見を吸い上げられる・・・、何とか大変だけれど頑張って互いに助け合おう』と思えるからです

ＮＹタイムスのコラムニストの一人がもしオバマ氏がどんな演説を行うべきかと考えたとき・・・危機の原因となった金融、全銀行家に向け、こんな演説を投稿しています

Last week /President-elect Barack Obama was asked to respond /to critics who say /that his stimulus plan won’t do enough to help the economy. Mr. Obama answered that /he wants to hear ideas /about “how to spend money efficiently and effectively to jump-start the economy.”

O.K., I’ll bite — although as I’ll explain shortly, the “jump-start” metaphor /is part of the problem.

First, Mr. Obama should scrap his proposal /for $150 billion in business tax cuts, which would do little/ to help the economy. Ideally /he’d scrap the proposed $150 billion payroll tax cut /as well, though I’m aware that /it was a campaign promise.

お正月はゆっくりと思っていましたが、派遣村のニュースを聞くたびに政府関係者でなく一般の沢山の方が献身的に活動に参加されていて本当に有難く敬意をいだきます
