イエスは、傷つきやすい子羊として、私たちのために命を捧げることを選びました。

Jesus, as the vulnerable Lamb, chose to give His life for us.

黙示録 7:16-17 16 彼らはもはや飢えることも渇くこともない。太陽も照りつけることも、どんな暑さも感じない。 17 御座の中央におられる小羊が彼らの牧者となり、命の水の泉に彼らを導き、神は彼らの目から涙をことごとくぬぐい取って下さるからである。

Revelation 7:16-17 16 ``They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."

Revelation 14:9-11 9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, ``If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 ``And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

Revelation 17:14 14 ``These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful."

黙示録 13:8 8 地に住むすべての者、すなわち、屠られた小羊のいのちの書に世の初めから名が記されていない者は皆、彼を拝むであろう。

Revelation 13:8 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.

マルハナバチとアナグマ、ライオンとスカンク、クロクマとビーグル犬には共通点が一つあります。それは、脅かされると攻撃することです。しかし、子羊の場合はそうではありません。

Bumblebees and badgers, lions and skunks, black bears and beagles all have one thing in common: If threatened, they attack. But that’s not the case with lambs.

聖書では、これらは通常、犠牲の捧げ物という文脈で言及されています。例えば、過越祭の時、神は子羊の血を通して民をエジプトの奴隷状態から救い出しました。洗礼者ヨハネがイエスを「世の罪を取り除く神の子羊」（ヨハネ1:29）と紹介したとき、弟子たちがどれほど驚いたか想像してみてください。

In the Bible, they’re usually mentioned in the context of a sacrificial offering. For example, at the time of the Passover, God rescued His people from Egyptian slavery through lamb’s blood. Imagine the disciples’ shock when John the Baptist introduced Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).

私たちの物語は奇妙なものです。キリスト教は、愛のために、そして愛ゆえに、自らを被造物の手によって犠牲にされた神を持つ唯一の宗教です。もちろん、傷つきやすい小羊であるイエスは、支配し、裁き、勝利する力ある方でもあります（黙示録5:6、14:9-11、17:14）。しかし、それでもなお、イエスは「屠られた小羊」（黙示録13:8）なのです。

Ours is a strange story. Christianity is the only religion with a God who, in love and for love, subjected Himself to be sacrificed at the hand of His own creatures. Of course, Jesus the vulnerable Lamb is also the Mighty One who rules, judges, and triumphs (Revelation 5:6; Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 17:14)—but even then, He is “the Lamb who has been slain” (Revelation 13:8).

これは勇敢で比類のない物語です。罪の深淵に陥り、自力で抜け出すことのできない、傷ついた人々の物語です。たとえ私たちの代わりに死ぬことになっても、自ら課した束縛から私たちを救い出す誰かが来なければなりませんでした。そして、まさにそれを私たちの救い主は行ってくださいました。子羊の姿で現れたライオンであるイエスは、私たちのために自ら命を捧げてくださいました。

It’s a valiant and unique story—of broken people who have sunk so deep in sin that we cannot lift ourselves out. Someone had to come and rescue us from our self-imposed bondage, even if it meant dying in our place. And that is exactly what our Savior did. Jesus, the lion who came as a lamb, willingly gave His life for us.
