Today we had two students, and together we did some exercises of giving reasons using 「~し」.
Grammar Explanation: Textbook げんきII pp. 11-13
Exercises: Textbook pp.19-20 II-A & B
We also reviewed how to make/construct "short form past tense" from "polite form past tense".
ex.) わかりませんでした → わからなかった
The best way is to think like this: (1) polite form past tense → (2) polite form present tense → (3) short form present tense → (4) short form past tense.
(1) わかりませんでした(pol/past) → (2) わかりません(pol/present) → (3) わからない(short/present) →(4) わからなかった (short/past)
The point of today is that you need to use a short form sentence when you use that sentence as a clause, such as 「~し」reason clause.
It was a fun class today. Hope we can continue like this from next week too!
