Calling on the name of the Lord in the Bible

Genesis 4:26 And to Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time men began to call upon the name of Jehovah.

calling on the name of the Lord starts from the third generation of human being, Enosh, the son of Seth. the name "Enosh" in Hebrew means "fragile, weak". so when man realise that he is weak and fragile, spontaneously, he began to call on the name of the Lord. 

in the Old Testament, starting from Enosh, all the way through the entire Old Testament, we can see many people, many records of calling on the name of the Lord. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Job, Samuel, Elijah, David, Jonah, Joel. Joel even prophesied in his book that man would call on the name of the Lord. 

Joel 2:32 And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah shall be saved; For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem will be an escape, As Jehovah has said, Even for the remnant Whom Jehovah calls.

also, in the New Testament, this is also practiced by many early Christians. this even became a sign, a mark for those who were persecuting them. this shows that how much they were calling on the name of the Lord. 

Acts 9:13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many concerning this man, how many evil things he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem;

Acts 9:14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call upon Your name.

Why do we need to call on the name of the Lord?

1. Romans 10: 13 says “For "whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'' The way of calling loudly helps people to be saved in a richer and more thorough way.

2. Calling on the Lord is to be rescued from distress, from trouble, and from sorrow and pain.

3. The more we call upon Him, the more we enjoy His mercy.

4. To receive the Holy Spirit.

5. To eat the spiritual food for our satisfaction.

6. Romans 10:12 says that the Lord is rich to all who call upon Him. the way to enjoy the riches of the Lord is to call upon Him.

How should we call on the Lord?

1. Out of a pure heart

2. With a pure lip

3. Open our mouth wide to call on the Lord

4. 2 Timothy 2:22 says “But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” call on the Lord corporately.
