英国のKPMGが、インペリアル・カレッジ・ロンドン（ロンドン大学から独立してできた大学）に、ビッグデータの観測所を開設したという記事。
KPMG has launched a big data observatory at Imperial College London in a bid to help businesses improve their products and services
これは、KPMGによるデータ・リサーチへの２０百万ポンドの長期投資の一部であり、サイバー通貨の取引、住所移転のパターン、通勤者の動きなどのビッグデータを視覚化する設備だそうです。
The data centre, part of KPMG’s long-term £20m investment in data research, will allow people to visualise big data such as cryptocurrency transactions, migration patterns and commuter movements.
欧州では最大規模のもので、32台のコンピュータによって稼働する64台のモニターが、円周状の壁をなしているそうです。
The Big Four firm said the observatory is the largest of its kind in Europe, with a circular wall of 64 monitors powered by 32 computers.
The centre, built by and located at the Imperial’s Data Science Institute, aims to develop new approaches for using big data, helping banks to predict fraud or retailers to better understand consumer behavior.
