名探偵明智小五郎
The great detective Kogorou Akechi
ネズミ色のトンビに身をつつんだ、小がらの左門老人が、長い坂道をチョコチョコと走らんばかりにして、富士屋旅館についたのは、もう午後一時ごろでした。
It was around 1 p.m. when little Samon in gray coat almost ran downhill and arrived Fujiya hotel.
「明智小五郎先生は？」
とたずねますと、裏の谷川へ魚釣りに出かけられましたとの答え。そこで、女中を案内にたのんで、またテクテクと、谷川へおりていかなければなりませんでした。
"Is there Master Kogorou Akechi?"
He asked and was answered that he went the river to fishing. He asked the maid to guide him. He had to walk downhill again.
クマザサなどのしげった、あぶない道を通って、深い谷間におりると、美しい水がせせらぎの音をたてて流れていました。
After he went through rather dangerous with the bush of low bamboo there was a beautiful, murmuring stream.
流れのところどころに、飛び石のように、大きな岩が頭を出しています。そのいちばん大きな平らな岩の上に、どてら姿のひとりの男が、背をまるくして、たれた釣りざおの先をじっと見つめています。
Here and there some big rocks to be seen in the river. There was a man in padded kimono staring the fishing rod with his back bent on biggest flat rock.
「あの方が、明智先生でございます。」
女中が先にたって、岩の上をピョイピョイととびながら、その男のそばへ近づいていきました。
"That man is Master Akechi."
The maid lead the way, jumping the rock to the other and reached the guy.
「先生、あの、このお方が、先生にお目にかかりたいといって、わざわざ遠方からおいでなさいましたのですが。」
"Master, this man came to see you from far."
その声に、どてら姿の男は、うるさそうにこちらをふりむいて、
「大きな声をしちゃいけない。さかなが逃げてしまうじゃないか。」
としかりつけました。
To her voice, he returned irritably.
"Don't talk so loud. The fish will go away."
He scolded.
モジャモジャにみだれた頭髪、するどい目、どちらかといえば青白い引きしまった顔、高い鼻、ひげはなくて、キッと力のこもったくちびる、写真で見おぼえのある明智名探偵にちがいありません。
With disheveled hair, keen eyes, rather pale sinewy face, high nose, strong lips, this must be the Detective Akechi.
「あたしはこういうものですが。」
左門老人は名刺をさしだしながら、
「先生におりいっておねがいがあっておたずねしたのですが。」
と、小腰をかがめました。
"I am this.."
He held out his name card.
"I came to ask something to you, please."
He said bending.
すると明智探偵は、名刺を受けとることは受けとりましたが、よく見もしないで、さもめんどうくさそうに、
「ああ、そうですか。で、どんなご用ですか。」
といいながら、また釣りざおの先へ気をとられています。
Akechi just took the name card without looking at it and said indolently.
"I see. So, what is the problem?"
He said with his attention sitll on the fishing rod.
