Dali Because, on a “red-eye” flight, the airplane is flying during ordinary sleep time. You can’t sleep on the plane because the seats are small and uncomfortable. How can you sleep? You can’t, so you get very sleepy. If you are forced to stay awake, your eyes become very irritated and red. That’s why we call it a “red-eye” flight.

A Red Eye cocktail is a super-easy “hair of the dog” option for hangovers. It is also called Red Beer or Tomato Beer. Some foolish people mistakenly call it Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary is another “hair of the dog” cocktail. However, Bloody Mary is vodka-based, while Red Eye is beer-based.
