Dali Consider the two words: oishii and oishikunai. If it’s oishikunai, do you think they would name it so? They definitely would not. Now in the supermarket, they have “Meiji Oishii Gyuunyuu.” Next to that, we have our milk, from Naniwa Shoten “Mazui Gyuunyuu.” But our milk is so cheap: only 30 yen for one liter. Of course customers don’t buy our milk. Even at 30 yen. Anyway, if a retailer says something is oishii, do you believe it?

Me Yikes! In the US, is it common to see in the supermarkets a food product whose brand name is “Oishii something”?

Dali Well, we might see it in the description, but it’s never part of the name, such as “Meiji Oishii Gyuunyuu” or “Morinaga no Oishii Gyuunyuu.” It’s bizarre. It’s utterly bizarre!

I ask the Taisho, “Gen-san, is your yaki-onigiri oishii?” He replies, “No, it’s mazui-yo!” He always responds that way because the question I ask is so ridiculous that he gives me a ridiculous answer. Who will ever say that their yaki-onigiri is oishikunai?
