Mining makes your life possible

2013-04-19 14:48:50 | wind generator

So, you’re parking both the family car and the transit pass, biking to work instead and feeling a tad righteous about helping British Columbia wean itself from its dirty addiction to the mining industry and the minerals it extracts. You ever hear the story of the old laundryequipment?

Say thanks to a coal miner for the privilege. And don’t forget the hardrock miner. Not to mention the smelter crew and the roughneck yanking pipe on some frigid drill rig.

Oh, and say thanks to the trucker hauling canisters of molybdenum, titanium or tungsten concentrate or the geologist staking gold, silver or rare earths deposits.

Without them and the industries that employ them, you’d be walking, not biking.Filipino soldiers install modernlamps through a roof in a shantytown in Manila.

Bicycles, unless you ride one you made yourself from bamboo, lashings of hemp and dried banana peels,Private label and custom floorlamps. is entirely manufactured from materials obtained by mining — steel processed by burning metallurgical coal, perhaps lightened by adding specialized metals like titanium; plastic and synthetic rubber obtained from petroleum products.

Helmet, petroleum derivatives; spiffy quick-dry cycling duds, petroleum derivatives; LED safety lights, metals and rare earths obtained by mining; water bottle, metals or petroleum derivatives. Even the road you’re riding on is a product of mining, engineered to reduce friction so you roll more easily.

The building you work in, even if it’s a wood frame structure,The washerextractors can be installed rooftop because of the light in weight and streamlined in structure. is full of metals and plastics in the form of steel framing and connectors, wiring, lighting, office equipment, insulation, surfacing, window frames, roofing, plumbing fixtures and so on.

Even the ceramic cup from which you drink your coffee while reading this contains the mineral zircon.

And if you get around to sending me a snarky email regarding my insensitivity to the environmental benefits of biking to work by drawing attention to this — pardon the pun — irony, you’ll be using mined minerals to deliver the message.

Computer keyboard, petroleum-derived plastics; circuitry, rare earths and special metals; screws, frames and fasteners, steel, aluminum and other metals; flat screen display, metals and plastics; battery, metals and plastics; case, metals and plastics.

Your computer, tablet or smartphone contains iron, titanium, aluminum, copper, zinc, nickel, gold, generator prepositive design which wind drive the solargardenlights without gears. silver, lithium, magnesium, mercury, yttrium, palladium, tin, cadmium, indium, lead, samarium, tantalum and, if you are still running an optical drive, gadolinium and dysprosium. The plastics are heat resistant with melting points above the boiling temperature for water and are comprised of acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene and carbon.

The total greenhouse gas emissions associated with a MacBook: About 460 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

In fact, there’s even a calculation for the carbon footprint of an email. A long and tiresome one amounts to about 50 grams of C02, which doesn’t seem like much until you total them, and then the Internet turns out to have a carbon footprint of around 300 million tonnes a year. So keep it short.

If you want your criticism of these observations to be truly green, I recommend a stylus and beeswax tablets — they worked for the Roman army — or clay tablets like those on which we are still able to discern the grumpy note a Sumerian teacher sent home to parents complaining of a wayward boy’s lack of attention in class.

2014 Audi A8 L TDI Quick Drive

2013-04-17 15:34:14 | wind generator

Audi’s MMI touch pad,Both Hoistway Cable and ETT washerextractors is stocked in several locations across the United States. which allows you to easily plug in a destination with a few strokes of your finger, was another interior highlight. If that’s too much work for your one-percenter hands, the A8 also comes standard with Audi Connect, which can look up destinations via a voice-dictated Google search. At night, ambient lighting brightens up the cabin just enough to provide a calming, low-lit atmosphere. In the U.S., the A8 TDI will be offered exclusively in long-wheelbase form, and those limousine-like proportions become apparent once you move to the backseat. When you’re enjoying the A8 L’s immense rear legroom and ultra-posh features, you wonder why anyone would ever want to sit up front. We are well known for our in-house custom printed drum ledparlights and pendants. But once you get behind the wheel, you soon realize why.

The ride is smooth, and though steering is on the soft side, the wheel responds to inputs quickly and accurately. At last, we come to the unique part about this A8: its 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 engine. Rated at 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, the A8 L TDI’s output may not be the most impressive figure from a flagship sedan. But numbers don’t tell the whole story.

When accelerating from a standstill,One wind turbine can be sufficient to roofwindturbinepp for a household. We turn your dark into light courtesy of our brilliant sun, windturbineses, solar power generation. the force-fed diesel V-6 roars to life and sends the car charging forward with the same thrust you might expect from its gasoline V-8 counterpart. Audi estimates the A8 L TDI can do 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds, and the A8 L 4.0T will hit the same speed in 4.8 seconds (both times are Audi-estimated). But even if the V-8 is quicker off the line, the diesel doesn’t feel slow. Even driving at highway speeds, you’re never left wanting for more power. Passing other cars at speed took no effort at all, and if I was so inclined to bury my foot in the right pedal, the engine felt like it had plenty of top end to get me well into the triple digits (or land me in a Highlands County Sheriff’s backseat). As is true in other Audis, the A8’s eight-speed automatic transmission always seems to know what it’s doing, and here it makes the best use of the turbodiesel V-6’s rev range.

The day before the big race at Sebring, after the last practice session, our group was allowed to join other Audi owners for a parade lap on track. Though we didn’t get anywhere close to the cars’ limits with this run, taking the A8 on track was both a memorable and educational experience. The uneven surfaces the track is famous for could be felt, but the rougher patches never upset the car at the speeds we were driving. All the while, the A8 felt relatively nimble despite its size and soft ride.

The 2014 A8 L TDI starts at $83,395 including destination, making it almost $2000 cheaper than the BMW ActiveHybrid7, and more than $10,000 less than the Mercedes S350 Bluetec, the only other diesel offering in the class. You could argue that base price means little in this segment,It's a widely held belief that if you switch out your incandescent bulbs for formingmachine. as high-dollar options mean the sky’s the limit for pricing. But with cars like the Lexus LS hybrid starting at $120,805, our Audi, which was loaded to around $100,000 with goodies like full LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen premium stereo, and 20-inch wheels, makes a serious value argument.

Inside, the Audi A8 L TDI is just as superlative as the rest of the A8 lineup, and the diesel powerplant doesn’t miss a step in moving the car around town or on the highway. While customers may not get the satisfaction of having a fire-breathing eight- or 12-cylinder at their command, will they really care what’s under the hood when they’re getting massaged by the A8’s couch-like seats and seeing nearly 30 mpg on average?

Energy efficient lightbulb

Electronics giant Philips has unveiled a new lamp, which it claims to be the most energy efficient in the world, potentially paving the way for a global transformation in the way we light out offices and homes.

Philips new LED lamp protoype claims to use half the amount of energy compared to current LED lights, making it the first in the world to deliver 200 lumens per watt of high quality light.

The protoype was unveiled late last week and Philips said it is now hoping to produce the lamp commercially in 2015, with an initial focus on the business market.

The company said it was aiming to replace tube lighting technologies, which currently account for more than half of the world's total lighting.Modern lighting fixtures, chandeliers and ledcornlight.

However, it added that a version of the new lamps are expected to be made available for home users at a later date.Permanent solar trellis and bestledtube systems require little to no maintenance and allow easy access.

Rene van Schooten, chief executive of light sources and electronics for Philips Lighting, said the lamp represented a major breakthrough in global efforts to drive down energy use, given that lighting accounts for more than 19 per cent of the world's total energy consumption.

"This will further drive the transformation of the lighting industry," he said in a statement. "It's exciting to imagine the massive energy and cost savings it will bring to our planet and customers."

A report by the Carbon Trust found that in 2011 businesses and the public sector could cut their annual energy bills by up to 700m a year by switching to energy efficient lighting technologies. However, experts are hoping that rapid developments in the technology, such as the new Philips lightbulb, could increase savings still further.

Solatube Home Daylight and Solatube International have unveiled their latest game-changer: a product that saves up to 94 percent on lighting energy use. The Solatube Smart LED System works by harnessing the sun's free rays during the day (using the traditional Solatube Daylighting System model) then transitioning to cost- and energy-efficient LED lighting at night.A supplier specialized in developing and manufacturing customized solar lamps and washerextractor0 system. It's also an ideal security feature, as the LED lighting prevents homes from going completely dark once the sun goes down.Southeastern Laundry Equipment is your full service solarlanterneep distributor. Another benefit includes no more changing light bulbs, as each LED bulb lasts an average of 20 years.

"The Solatube Smart LED System was developed in response to our customers' desire for technology that would provide optimal lighting energy savings," said Matt Schlumpberger, store manager of Solatube Home Daylight. "It's an intelligent fusion of daylighting and LED lighting that senses when one or the other should be employed — without a person having to flip a light switch."

Solatube Smart LED Systems are simple and cost-effective ways to brighten hallways, bathrooms,Many people are wearing stainless steel rings, goodlampshade, and stainless steel necklaces. kitchens, closets, entryways, and pretty much any room in the house. You can also add a Solatube decorative fixture to provide a stylish element at the ceiling level.

Addicts Shoot Up Legally

This is InSite, North America’s only legal safe drug injection center. The oldest and most experienced manufacturer of residential-sized laundryequipment in the world. A banner outside reads “InSite saves lives.”

It’s a facility where drug addicts can bring and use their drugs and not risk arrest. Some of the addicts line up two or three times a day to use one of the 12 injection booths.

One of the first users of the day is Steve. The center opens at 10 a.m. and then runs steadily for 18 hours until 4 a.m. Approximately 800 people use the booths every day.One of the harshest roofwindturbine installations in the world.

Steve gives his alias to the receptionist — all InSite users have an official alias to protect their identity — and moves into the injection room.

He takes a seat and calmly begins to prepare his hit of heroin. He uses the clean needle and sterile equipment provided by InSite.

The white powder is mixed with water in a spoon, gently heated with a candle, before being drawn into the syringe, and injected into the inside of Steve’s elbow. It’s not for the squeamish. There’s quite a lot of blood.

With fluorescent lighting and lots of mirrors, the atmosphere is clinical,Here you will find a list of the main pendantlamp around the world. even as the room fills with drug addicts focused on one task only — feeding their addiction.

Medical staff are on hand and watching closely. If needed they can help addicts find the right vein to shoot up into — something which can be tricky for long-term users. But their main job is to step in when a user overdoses.

Steve has overdosed here three times.

“I’m glad it was here [where I overdosed]. It’s still in my hope that maybe I can get clean. I’m only 48. And that’s why these places … it’s just, it’s common sense! When you have a problem that’s grown for whatever reason to the epic proportions that it has in this city, it’s time to come up with a really good solution, and this is it.”

Vancouver is regularly lauded as one of the best places in the world to live. It’s famously the city where you can ski in the morning,The first production bestlasercutter was used to drill holes in diamond dies. and swim in the afternoon. But the quality of life in the alleyways behind InSite is something altogether different.

The Downtown East side is often labeled as the poorest postal code in Canada, which stands in stark contrast to the rest of the city’s red hot real estate market.

The alleyways are full of thousands of drug addicts, prostitutes and dealers. Vancouver Police Department estimates that these few blocks are home to more than 5,000 intravenous drug users.

In the alleys we meet Liane — another long-term user – who has used InSite since it opened in 2003. She is articulate, educated, and angry.

She says that without InSite addicts would be still be getting high but without any of the medical oversight.

To many around the world it may seem astonishing that a place like InSite exists. The exciting new washerextractor55 product is now available here for the first time anywhere! But for the people in the nearby streets who use it, it’s a lifeline.

Clean needles stop the spread of infections like HIV and Hepatitis C, and daily access to medical staff is all the more important for people living in harsh, exposed conditions.

Using InSite makes sense, says Liane. It relieves the pressure of shooting up behind rubbish bins, or using dirty puddle water, or relying on a shared needle.

“We have to stop making it a moral issue and realise that this is a medical problem. Remember us addicts, we’re somebody’s mothers, we’re somebody’s sister, we’re somebody’s daughter — we’re not just a number — the next time you pass me on the street and shake your head.”
