Berklee College of Music Presents Miburi - Virtual MIDI Body Percussion with Hiroshi Chu Okubo.
Like the popular rhythms created by the group STOMP, Hiroshi's non-traditional performances are musical journeys that embrace the past and the future.

WHAT: Japanese percussionist Hiroshi Chu Okubo will present "Miburi -- Virtual MIDI Body Percussion" concert demonstration at Berklee College of Music on Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. The event is sponsored by the Percussion Dept.

This concert demonstration will feature the new Yamaha MIDI virtual body Percussion system -- MIBURI. This is the latest in MIDI technology that utilizes the human body to trigger MIDI interfaces. Mr. Okubo is the first MIBURI player in the US. He is a solo Japanese percussionist and Nebuta-Taiko (traditional Japanese drum) performer. He is the Director of HCO Music Factory Group and also the Artistic Director of MIO Music in Japan.

Mr. Okubo studied at Anna Maria College (MA), and his graduate studies were at the Hartt School of Music (University of Hartford, CT). He has performed over 300 concerts and workshops since 1995, including performances in the United States, Europe, China and Japan. His solo performance at a 1996 festival in China drew an audience of more than 40,000 people. His performances have been broadcast to over 20 countries in Asia and featured in several newspapers. Mr. Okubo is touring internationally though the summer of 2000, including some dates with Japanese Marimba player Keiko Abe.
