日本で何か起こっても、海外メディアの記事の方が整理されていて判りやすいんじゃないか、ということは時々感じることなんですが、

つまり、現在の規制に利益を得ていて、その利益を守るために食糧危機をあおりたい人たちがいて、それに無批判に乗っかって報道するメディアがあって・・・。

日本のコメってどんだけ高いネン、というわけで、
おまけに事故米まで食わされて・・・・。

ってトコでしょうか。

海外のメディアはしっかり見てて、さっきのBBCの記事では、こいつらアホか目線なんですな。

Motorola didn't learn a thing from last year's problems that plagued Z8 slider-phone. The Symbian-powered Z10 is take-two for the kick-slider concept that hinges the phone as it opens into a curved shape. And what is the reasoning behind this wizardry? It allegedly improves call quality by bringing the microphone closer to the mouth. It wasn't really necessary to tank the otherwise great handset that has excellent video recording capabilities juts for the sake of wow effect when you kick-slide it open. Do it too many times and you risk back-bending.

Nokia N96: feature beast for geeks

Expected to arrive during the quarter, Nokia N96 is by any measure a feature monster that has it all. But top-notch hardware has no match in software and the end result is actually a concept phone that proves how much can be crammed into a handset. N96 is not perfectly balanced product, although it could have been. It is too heavy, looks bulky and if its predecessor is any indication, clunky user interface and unreliable navigation button will appeal only to geeks. If only we could have the iPhone with N96 hardware.

Samsung Instinct: bad marketing cripples a great product

The only iPhone challenger this summer, Instinct sells for $129 with a 2-year Sprint service contract. It's a great handset with some features that the iPhone 3G lacks, such as camcorder camera, live TV and music downloads over the cellular network and touchscreen that also works with a stylus. Instinct is also a prime example how bad marketing cripples a great product. Samsung was so confident in Instinct that it made ads that pitched key Instinct features against the iPhone, with both handsets shown side-by-side. As if providing free advertising for the iPhone wasn't enough, the ads became irrelevant when iPhone 3G came out soon thereafter, but it took Samsung weeks to remove videos from Instinct site.

モルスタを三菱UFJが、リーマンを野村が、ゴールドマンを住友が・・・。まあ、隔世の感がありますが、世の中変れば変わるってとこですね。おごれるものも久しからず。

But questions remain as to whether the traditionally cautious top-down style of Japan's banks will be a good fit with Lehman, Goldman, and Morgan Stanley.

日本のトップダウンスタイルがリーマンやゴールドマンやモルガンスタンレーに合うのか，というもっともな疑問がある。そうですな。

In his recently opened blog page, Google Inc.’s co-founder Sergey Brin revealed the fact that he is predisposed to developing Parkinson’s disease, due to a genetic mutation. The discovery was made by his wife’s company, 23andMe, which studied his DNA and reached the conclusion that similar to some of his family members, there is a strong chance that he might also develop the disease.

モルガンスタンレー ジェットコースター株価

モルガンスタンレーの株価がものすごいことになってまして、
２０ドルで始まって１１ドル台まで落ちて、結局２５ドル近くまで戻して、結局２２ドル台で引けてます。これ、一日の動きですからなあ。

ゴールドマンサックスも振れが大きかったわけですけが、モルスタさんほどではなかったみたいですね。

前日よりは下げて終わってますが、寄り付きよりはあげて終わってます。

この５日間を並べて見るとわかりますが、モルスタがかなりヤバイ感じだったことがわかりますよね。

リーマン、メリルときて、お次は、と投資銀行狙い撃ちってとこなんでしょうか。まあ、戻してよかったですな。

リーマンブラザーズの株価が落ちすぎ、というのは先月のことだったんですが、まさか、Cahpter11とは。

Nightmare on Wall Street

このロンドンエコノミスト誌の記事、結論から先にご紹介しますと、

Even if markets can be stabilised this week, the pain is far from over—and could yet spread.

今週とりあえずこれでマーケットは落ち着くかも知れないが、痛みはこれで終わるには遠く，もっと広がるかも、ってことです。

Worldwide credit-related losses by financial institutions now top $500 billion, of which only $350 billion of equity has been replenished. This $150 billion gap, leveraged 14.5 times (the average gearing for the industry), translates to a $2 trillion reduction in liquidity. Hence the severe shortage of credit and predictions of worse to come.

５０兆円の損失に３５兆円しか資本調達できておらず、１５兆円の不足。レバレッジ14.5倍を考えると２００兆円の流動性の不足。まだまだひどいことがおきる。

the banks have just shifted a chunk of their risk to the central bank. As spectacular as this weekend was, more drama is on the way.

中央銀行にリスクをシフトしただけで、まだまだこわいドラマが待っている。

まあ、楽観論を否定して経済そんなに簡単に回復しないと、去年の１１月にロンドンエコノミスト誌は予測していて、見事にあたっているわけで、多分この見立て的確なんでしょう。

で、状況なんですが、

この破綻劇で、危機は新たなフェーズに入ってて、他の金融機関のリーマンが持ってた似たような資産も償却せざるを得なくなって、さらに自己資本が悪化するかも。似たようなってなんですかね。

The biggest worry is the effect on derivatives markets, particularly the giant one for credit-default swaps. Lehman is a top-ten counterparty in CDSs, holding contracts with a notional value of almost $800 billion.

最も心配なのが、デリバティブズマーケットへの影響で、特にCDSはリーマンはトップ１０に入る取引があって約８０兆円相当。CDSってデフォルトリスクをヘッジするスワップらしいんですが、お前がデフォルトしてどないすんネン。

名古屋で自民党の総裁選にうつつを抜かしている間に、世界はとんでもないことになっていた、って感じです。

株価は当然紙くずで、社員の皆さんはお気の毒。

The inability to find a buyer is a huge blow to Lehman’s 25,000 employees, who own a third of the company’s now-worthless stock; in such a difficult environment, most will struggle to find work at other financial firms.

３分の１は社員が持っているらしく・・・。ストックオプションとかいうやつですかね。ああ、あこがれの投資銀行に入って高給に喜んでいたのもつかの間か。

各国のリーマンのオフィスから，社員さんが自分の荷物を持って出て行く様が報じられてますな。

総裁選

たまたまなんですが、名古屋に出かけることがありまして、駅前におりたったら総裁選挙４候補の演説会とかで、

１時間にわたって車上から各候補が所信を述べられたのでありますな。

私はまったくのノンポリでどの政党がどうでも関係ない感じですが、どの候補も有名人なんで、野次馬的に立ち止まって演説を聞いてました。

生まれて初めて、生で政治演説をきいたことになるんですけどね。

で、ですね。

正直、いまいち、的な印象でしたね。
政治家の演説ってこんなもんなんですかね。

安心して暮らせる仕組み、規制緩和大事です、ドーロ作ります、環境重視します、んー。

挙句の果てには増税します。

持ち時間が少ないから抽象的なスローガンをもってこざるを得ないのかも知れませんが、それにしても、今、安心して暮らせるだとか、規制緩和だとか、ドーロがテーマなんですかね。新味も切実感も、共感も、何も感じさせないんじゃないか、とこっちが心配になるくらいで。

ひとつひとつ否定する人はいないんでしょうけど、だから、って感じで、支持を訴えるに足る内容なんだろうか、という次第で、

いや、テレビで数秒流されるもの以外、今まで政治演説を長く聞いたことがなかったもんで、ちょっとショックだったんですが、

これがフツーなんでしょうか、と思いましたな。

演説の中身ってあんましカンケーないんでしょうな。

米内務省 セックス、ドラッグスキャンダル

セックス、ドラッグ，ロックンロール。

ロックをがんがんに響かせながら真夜中、街中を車で走り回る、というのは映画でならず者を描く時に出てくるシーンですな。

まあ、やりたい放題、なんでもありな場合、人間落ちるとこういうところに落ち着くかも、ということでもありますが、

A report issued Sept. 10 by the department's inspector general accuses employees in the department's Denver Minerals Management Service of a litany of ethical violations, including drug abuse and engaging in sexual relationships with oil company employees.

それが、トンデモなニュースが出ておりまして、
米内務省でセックス、ドラッグスキャンダルが持ち上がっているようなんですね。

The report says, "we learned that some RIK employees frequently consumed alcohol at industry functions, had used cocaine and marijuana, and had sexual relations with oil and gas company representatives."

オイル業界建物での、ってことでしょうが、頻繁な飲酒、コカイン、マリファナの吸引、オイル業界からの営業員とのセックスが、調査の結果わかったとかで、

よく読むと、業界がお代官様、良い娘が、といって差し出したというより、内務省側は女性で、業界側は男。うまくたらしこんだって感じなんですかね。

アームズレングスを超えた関係だって、まじめに書かれると笑えますな。

ただ、セックススキャンダルはこれだけじゃないみたいで、それに他にも複数の役人がプレゼントをもらったりや何かで、結構ムチャクチャです。

内務省で、オイル業界が国土の使用量を徴収する、地味なセクションでのスキャンダルなんですが、見返りに何を業界に与えていたのかはよくわかりませんな。

それにしても、政権末期、選挙前のスキャンダル。

それにしても、内容がスゴ過ぎますな。

グーグルのブラウザー

今月に入って、グーグルの新プラウザーが英語誌でも各誌が取り上げています。うわさはされていたようなんですが、発表は突然、寝耳に水という感じですね。

マイクロソフトのエクスプローラーもバージョンアップが８月にあったみたいですが、すっかりかすんでしまって・・・。

私もダウンロードして使ってみましたが、体感速度はかなり早いです。ただ、さすがにベータ版らしく、このブログを書くにもURLリンクをうまくはることができませんでした。それにロボワード，私はロボワード付きの英語辞書をパソコンに入れて使っていますが、うまく立ち上がりませんでした。

記事によれば、このブラウザーの特長は速度とタブが独立に機能するのでクラッシュしにくい、ってとこですかね。

それにしても、エクスプローラーは遅いとかなんとか、いまいち評価です。

デル 自社生産を止めるかも

デルも低価格のノートパソコンに参入するってニュースが新聞に出てました。ノートパソコンが５万円ってちょっと信じられない価格ですが、そういう時代になりつつあるわけですな。

で、この動きに間接的に関連してと言いますか，もっと重要なニュースがデルについて出ておりまして、

ひょっとしたら、デルは自社生産から撤退して、協力製造業者に生産をゆだねるんじゃないか、という観測があるようなんですな。

Dell blamed the profit drop mainly on being too aggressive in price cutting to gain market share in some regions of the world.

デルは先月、増収だったが減益で、その原因をシェアを伸ばすために価格を下げすぎたことに置いたわけですが、

ベストバイに５０万台のノートパソコンを売るのに、台湾の協力製造業者にまとめて作らせてまとめて売るほうがはるかに効率が良い、とはあるアナリストの談。

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, quoting unnamed sources, that Dell had approached contract computer manufacturers with a plan “to sell most — and possibly all — its factories” within the next 18 months.

デル自身は否定しているようなんですが、ウォールストリートジャーナルに，１８ヶ月以内にほとんどの、ないしは全部の自社工場を売却することを協力製造業者に打診しているとかなんとか。

contract computer manufacturers っていうのは、協力製造業者というか、契約工場というか　アウトソース先とか、EMSとか、あまりいい言葉じゃないですが下請け業者のことでしょうな。

そういえは、以前、日立がHDD事業を売却するかもしれないと報じられたときに、Flextronicsという大手のEMSが、パソコンの製造受託を拡大したいとコンファレンスコールで説明されていたことを思い出したんですけどね。

場合によっちゃ、デルの工場を丸ごと買いまっせ、みたいなことになったりして
・・・。

さて、デルはそもそもパソコン販売事業にジャストインタイムを徹底すれば商売になる、というとこから出発したはずなんですが、デルがパソコンを作らなくなってもデルたりうるんですかね。法人顧客のデスクトップも売り続けるわけで、いくらなんでも全部売るってのはありうるんですかね。

とはいえ、最近のパソコンの伸びが個人向けで、ノートパソコンにあって、そのことが無敵に思えたほどのデルのビジネスモデルにまで決定的な影響を与えているってことなんですな。

いやーっ、結構びっくりしました。
