今日のメインは写真の イワヒバ （品種は 九重錦） です。 イワヒバは漢字にすると、 岩柏 となります。 また、 岩松 とすることもあるようです。 イワヒバは大小わせて１０鉢ほど育てています。 写真のイワヒバは紅葉しています。 春から初冬までは、基本的にグリーン一色です。 花は咲きません。 葉姿や紅葉を楽しむものです。 イワヒバは 古典園芸 と言われる古くからある植物群の一種です。 専門店でない一般の園芸店に並ぶのは年に一度あるかないかでしょう。 よく気をつけていないと、目に留まることすらありません。 今年は気候がおかしくて、なかなかイワヒバが紅葉しなかったのですが、11月末から、やっと紅葉してきました。 紅葉はイワヒバの種類によって微妙な、あるいは大胆な違いがあってみていて飽きません。 この後は寒さのために完全に休眠し、葉をすべて巻き込んでしまいます。 こうなると水をやっても根にダメージを与えるだけなので、来春の自然な目覚めをただじっと待つことになります。
ところで、気候がおかしいと書きましたが、その表れは他にもあり、例えば、近くの神社では桜が咲いてしまいましたし、庭に植えてある西洋シャクナゲの花も中途半端に開いてしまいました。 また、昆虫界ではカマキリやナナフシが羽化してしまったりしています。 何か、可笑しなこの頃です。
