Please Raise Your Voice to Help the Animals Left Behind in Fukushima's Nuclear No-Go Zone!
Dear(相手先の団体名),
I am(自分の名前)living in(住んでる町の名前), Japan. I emailed you today because I'd like you to know that the Japanese government is neglecting thousands of pets and farm animals in Fukushima's nuclear off-limits area. A lot of people have been asking the government to allow animal rescue teams, such as Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support (JEARS:http://jears.org/), to enter the zone, but they never hear us.
Right after the nuclear power plant trouble on March 12, a 20km radius from Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant was set as an evacuation zone. It has been reported that more than 100,000 farm animals and around 5,000 dogs left in the area. On April 21, Japanese government set the evacuation area as an off-limits area. Since that day, no one can go inside the area to feed and give water to them. That's why the animals left behind in the area are starving and dying there. After a week since it was set the Japanese government, pushed by the continuous voice of protest for poor animals, finally took some actions. On April 28, by the order of Japanese government, the Fukushima City Officials have started doing some research and rescuing some animals there. However It's such a small team and they can rescue only around 5 dogs by working for 2 hours per day. They don't rescue pets inside the houses nor chained animals. They help only wandering dogs and cats, no farm animals. That's why many animals have been dead and are about to die in the zone.
The government is now planning to let the evacuees to return home for 2 hours in a few days. Staying for 2 hours isn't long enough but the government are going to even prohibit the pet owners to take their pets out of the zone when the evacuees go back to the evacuation centers. It should be allowed. The government isn't humane at all.
Due to the situation, German animal rights organization "Der DeutscheTierschutzbund"(http://www.tierschutzbund.de/) is also going to write a request for rescuing the animals in the area to the Japanese Ambassador in Germany, and it will be send directly to the Japanese government.
IFAW is going to have a summit on May 2 and 3 in Tokyo (http://www.ifaw.org/ifaw_international/media_center/press_releases/4_22_2011_70125.php), and Care2 is also collecting petitions on their petition site below:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/26/save-animals-in-Japan-evacuation-zone/
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/43/please-save-fukushima-farm-animals/
...but we don't have time and need immediate action.
I'd like you to raise your voice to the Japanese government to let animal rescue teams help the animals in the zone without limitations right now, and let evacuees get back their pets from the area when they return home.
I'm ashamed that our government doesn't do anything for the animals seriously and have to ask you to help our animals, but we definitely need your help.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
