つーわけで、昨日からポルトガルのマデイラ（Madeira）で始まった2009年IWC総会。
これに合わせて、Sea Shepehrd の方々も現地入りしたのだが・・・。

実の所、Sea Shepherd はIWC 総会への出入り禁止を喰らっている。
それでも、日本や韓国といった捕鯨推進派の諸国に抗議するためにあえて現地入りした模様。
ただ、Watson 船長のポルトガル入国手続き時に少し問題が起こっていた。
つーのも、1980年にポルトガルの Lexioes Harbor（Porto de Leixões：Porto という都市の沖合）で Sierra 号という捕鯨船を沈没させた容疑で逮捕状が出ていたからだ。
その結果、Watson 船長は一時的にポルトガル警察に拘束されてしまった。
しかし、拘束後数時間して Watson 船長への逮捕状が2008年に期限切れになってることが発覚。
その後、Watson 船長は釈放されたのは言うまでもなかった・・・。
そのまま2009年IWC総会終了まで拘束されてれば良かったのに。

で、この騒動を受けて Sea Shepherd の豪州担当こと Jeff Hansen 氏はこの騒動の裏事情について色々語っていた。

去年の IWC総会でも似たようなことがあったってか。
仮に今回の騒動で日本政府が何も関与して無いとしても、いかに Sea Shepherd が日本政府から嫌われてるかってのをはっきりと示してるわ。
ってかこれ、Watson船長相手だからこそただの誤認逮捕に思えないという罠。
で、無事にポルトガル入りした Watson 船長達は、Madeira にある2009年IWC総会会場に到着。
が、会場入り口にはポルトガルの警察がぎっしり・・・。
あえなく、会場入りを断念するハメに。
